Kate - Our journey to Quepos was....hurray... not too long and only took around 2 hours. When we arrived however it was absolutely tipping it down with rain which we later learnt it did everyday in the afternoon in Quepos. It is actually quite refreshing since the mornings are so hot, and also you dont feel bad about lazing around the hostel playing cards, reading our books in the afternoon.
Quepos is a small town along the coast from Jaco and it really nice. We chose to stay in a Backpackers after our somewhat extravganze in Playa Hermosa and we picked out a hostel called the Wide Mouth Frog....luckily the name wasnt a reflection of the type of tennants they have living within there grounds- thank god!!! It was a really nice hostel and cheap which was ideal for us. We decided that after almost 6 weeks of what seems to be like being on the constant move that we would stay put in Quespos and have a chance to just......well sit really.
There is also a beautiful national park a very short bus journey away from the town calle Manuel Antonio- and it is stunning. It not only
has your typical forest, there are wild white faced monkeys swinging about the trees and the whole park is lined with the most stunning beaches we have seem so far. White sands, beautifully blue ocean, lots of hermit crabs (they are so cool) and even some surf for steve- happy days. So as you can imagine for the time we spent in Quepos we went there pretty much everyday. It worked out perfect, get up early, get to the national park for some tanning and surfing and back in the afternoon before the rain kicks in and we can chill out in our hostel-magic! I am still in ore really about the amount of wildlife you see everyday in Costa Rica. There are just loads of lizards hanging around, vultures swooping through the air above your head and on one morning when it was raining first thing we went for an early breakfast in the main town and i spotted a bloody croc down one of the open drains on the side of the main street in Quepos, just his eyes and jaw pocking out the water!!!- another amazing photo opportunity painlfully missed becauase we didnt have our cameras on
Surf at QueposA really nice point break - definately my favorite so far.
us- doh!!! we will learn- honest!
Needless to say with almost a week in Quepos our tans our coming along nicely and we feel refrshed now we have had some sitting time. However, as beautiful as the national park was, and cheap the hostel was it was definately time to move on and explore a little more of the coast! If you sit still for too long you start to get a little blazay about all the wonderfull things you see everyday. Sounds terrible i know but its true and that is the beauty of traveling really, every place is a little different and has something new to explore- and once you have had enough you move on tosomewhere new!- its ace!
Our HostelCan´t believe Kate actually stayed here given the name!
