Day 11 - Nature and Pierce Brosnan
We woke up early to go to the Monteverde Biological Cloud Forest Reserve. With a couple friends we conquered almost the entire park in 2 hours. So many amazing different plants and fauna, things you picture when you think of the rainforest - huge leaves, towering trees, vines, moss, bright colors. I think my skin became saturated with chlorophyll. We went across a cool suspension bridge and saw an amazing waterfall. Maybe the best part was coming upon some hanging vines from a towering tree and just going for it. We grabbed them and just swung out over the hill of plants and bushes. The tarzan swing yesterday was one thing, I mean, it was harnessed and safe and all that, but this was natural, real, unadulterated rainforest vine swinging.
It’s one of those things where you just are thrilled to be where you are, doing what you are doing, relishing in opportunities you might not be able to do anywhere else. I’ve always had a deep love for nature and the outdoors (thanks Washington & family), and obtaining an entirely different idea of what nature is has been enthralling for me. The
absolute perfection and ridiculous detail that exists in nature never ceases to blow my mind or make me giddy like a child. People from anywhere on the planet can gather and watch a waterfall in awe, but really, what is it about it that is so engaging? It is water falling from a high point onto a lower point, you can do it in your shower; yet, there is almost nothing else so beautiful and awe-inspiring. It makes you think. And it makes me think of Michaela.
On the way home after the cloud forest, we watched “After the Sunset” on the bus. I have decided Pierce Brosnan can only play one character. I also think that’s how he is in real life. Can we have one movie where EVERYONE in it is that actor that can only play one character? And it should be about a heist of some sort. “The Heist, starring Keanu Reeves, Pierce Brosnan, Paul Walker, Rob Schneider, Mike Myers, and all your other favorites!” Possible addendums to the list are the following that I exempted for the reasons listed: Denzel Washington (always plays the angry black man, but he’s damn good at it) and
Christian Bale (always plays the stone cold badass, but he’s such a good badass that it doesn’t even matter… and he’s my favorite actor), and Clint Eastwood & Christopher Walken (same characters always, but incredibly timeless and captivating).
