Back in Costa Rica, on our way to Nicaragua.
The return journey ended with us getting off the bus after 9 hours at the first place they would stop after crossing the Cost Rican border, in a little highway town called Uvita. We really wanted to explore the Osa Pennisula, this was the closest we could get. We stayed at the Toucan Hostel, which was quite funky. Lots if retro, hippy type art, and very "tranquilly" peeps. The rooms were small but comfy until our air/ con broke and no one seemed to really care...except us. They did however supply us with a fan which pushed the +35 air around a lot faster but it does make you feel cooler. That was home base and from there we rented a car and drove for an overnight to Puerto Jimene on the Osa Peninsula. We very much enjoyed this little sea side laid back town. We found a Hostel, right on the beach for a night and rented a couple of sea kayaks. We found an estuary to paddle up and while we did not see any wildlife, paddling through the mangroves and listening to the sounds, experiencing the smells was

an incredible experience. On our sunset paddle back Ian spotted some fins ahead that were gone by the time I looked. Then we saw a "large head" of something pop up and disappear but are unable to say for sure what it was. The next day we drove over a very rough road, through 4 rivers and picked up a hitch-hiking lady who was probably in her late 60's wanting a ride to Drake bay where we were going. She was actually standing in the road and waved us to stop. She had come into the little village to see a doctor and as she was getting into our rental truck I noticed she had her leg in a bandage. We were not able to have full conversations with her but she did teach us a few more Spanish words..... (Baca= cow) When we arrived to Baha'i Drake we were astounded at the beauty. I had heard it is beautiful but seeing is believing! Drake Bay consists of a mini-super (which is the equivalent to a corner store), there are a few hostels, tour companies a couple of restaurant and a few luxury hotels. The beaches are stunning. All this sits right in the edge of the largest protected national park in Costa Rica called the "Corcovado National Park”. It is a very protected area and they only let a certain number of visitors in at a time. We did a short hike in to one of the most beautiful secluded beaches. We stripped down to our skivvies and had a refreshing swim before hiking back out. We want to return there for a few days before the end of our journey as we only spent 2 days there and it beckons for much longer. From the Peninsula, we checked out of our hostel ( had our beers swiped from the communal fridge) and drove on to Jaco. We have already stayed here but with our kids coming and they only able to stay for a week, we wanted somewhere close where we could zip into San Jose and pick them up and not have to drive for hours. In Jaco we have rented a small condo, with peeling paint but the air con works, the beds are soft and we've managed quite nicely! There is a lovely pool here and nice gardens that we have spent great deal of time hanging around. The girls and Tracy's boyfriend Alistair have enjoyed some of the night life, some of the close by beaches and local (typical) food. We have seen a few amazing sunsets while sitting on the beach with a cold beer. Tracy celebrated her 24th birthday here and we are sad to see them leave. Costa Rica brings out the travel bug in most people and I sure you will see them all back down here sometime in the near future. Northward we go onto Nicaragua....... Hasta leugo mi amigos....

From here we walked 45 minutes up a steep trail to the waterfall. On the way down we spotted a flock of Tucans.
