Elizabeth at DinnerElizabeth, author of this entry, waits for dinner to be served at a restaurant in Quepos.
A typical Costa Rican meal consists of meat, rice, beans, and sometimes salad. The meat is usually chicken, beef, or steak. Costa Rican salads contain avocado juice and do not contain dressing, and French fries are sometimes served instead of beans or rice. Burritos are commonly served in restaurants.
There are several differences between Costa Rican food and American food. The amount of grease is the most notable difference. Although most Costa Rican restaurants serve hamburgers and French fries, they are significantly less greasy than most American burgers and fries. The difference in grease is even evident in foreign foods, such as Chinese food. We decided to visit a Chinese restaurant yesterday just for fun, and the food was much less greasy than the Chinese food served in the U.S.
Another notable difference is the breakfast. While most Americans eat something different for breakfast than lunch and dinner, it is common for Costa Rican breakfast to be the same as their lunch and dinner food.
Ice cream is also common in Costa Rica and is one of our favorite snacks! However, all of the food has been very delicious and pretty healthy, too.
