Ok so we made it to school and were completely pulled it off as if it was planned. School does start at 8, ends at 3. We were there about 7:25, Jennifer administrative person had everything ready we signed, bought a couple shirts, done by 7:50 went to find the class room. Kiley’s Teacher is young and seems really fantastic. There are 15 kids. The classroom was literally finished being built in the last week. The school has a wonderful aire about it. Friendly, young, the “founders”, really great! None of them could possibly be past their 30’s, young thoughtful amazing educators. I am wholeheartedly impressed. Parents are equally as friendly. Those that we have seen in passing over the last couple days we now exchange, oh hey, I know you, I saw you at the pet store/wireless place =)
Missing the orientation, I missed the fact that school hot lunch does not start for two weeks. Carter and I came back home to make a lunch, well the police were here trying to talk to me in Spanish. I really had NO idea what he wanted but he didn’t seem to need me so we went inside. Then an
English speaking policeman came by. Ok, so seems someone called 911 and they were here looking for a man with a weapon. How about this, we leave immediately you look for him. Thisis what I told the guy he thought that was funny. Mind you the charades of “man with a weapon” he was doing an impression of a guy with an AK 47 not like a base ball bat. Needless to say my name and passport number are in an official Costa Rican police report already. Hard to believe especially with the precise system they have, I think they had the wrong address, they wanted 500 meters something or other Villa Loma del sol. We are a mere 100 meters and no Del Sol. Again, I think I would like to say I’ve had enough with the police. At least for this quarter.
Carter and I went to Tamarindo and bought hangars tons and tons of hangars well all they had anyway. At the Auto Mercado. I feel official I have grocery cards for two stores now. Fancy. This is by far the best and biggest store around. The one we should have just started with. Tamarindo is
a beach tourist town much like every other in the US. 100 surf rental/tour shops, 100 sandal/swim suit shops, 250 restaurants and 200 bars. It is much larger more touristic and nice. Quaint still and but larger amenities, banks, a gym etc. I still just don’t know where we will end up. It’s about a 17 min drive.
Today was absolutely fantastic. No rain finally cleared up we have sun and hot but not blistering hot. Carter and I stopped for ice cream after hangars.
Went to pick up Kiley from school, a little early hoping to make friends with other parents. Yep, me trying my hardest to be social. I loved this, one mom asked another can you take home so and son’s kids? She said oh, I can’t, I'm sorry, not today I have Jacks car. Mine was just stolen, other mom oh man, since this morning? When we last talked to you. Yea, so I don’t have the room….. Talk about, “it is what it is!” Whatever, Pura Vida, can’t do anything about it bitching does no good, car is gone, move on. I want that! Maintenance guy told me to park my car within
Photo 2my pancakes are good and cheap
the gates tonight. I guess there has been a rash of car thefts this week. Ok no problem, will do, thanks.
Anyway, Kiley loved school, made some friends, twin girls in her class, she got to be line leader, they have PE tomorrow, They read, had a new school first day meeting and played with play dough. That’s about all I got, but that she loved it. Favorite part. Miss Sara her teacher.
We are at the pool now this is where I have internet . Kids are having fun. I have a half a chicken in a pot on the stove slow cooking since 2. Not sure what to do with it but know it will come off the bones easy this way. It was much much cheaper than our usual boneless skinless chicken breast. Carter was perplexed about the giant yogurt I bought; they have always had serving size yogurt. If someone has the poor man’s guide to making cheap diner please forward it to my 100 north flamingo potero crossroad address.
Oh that was interesting added some excitment…. Carter just came up to say hi, I have been sitting here typing this for a while.
(Plus was on the internet laughing hysterically about Mcains hockey grandma VP selection… oh that’s funny.) So Carter moved the chair right next to me. It was apparently housing a hornets nest I mean to the point where I almost threw him in the pool they were swarming him. He got stung. Now the intelligent thing to do OF COURSE IS….. I went to investigate (and of course take a picture), to see where they all came from… a nest! DUH! Now what is the most OBVIOUS outcome? I got stung. Me on my hand, him on the leg. Security and his wife came out for the party or commotion whichever. Kids got jelly packets? Seriously, like the ones at Dennys for toast. He was eating it right out of the packet with his finger. Kids joined right in. Carter and I got “Zepol Resfrios” on our bites… no idea what it is but I have the empty box will buy some at the famarcia next trip as it was most helpful.
Ok and then the neighbor came up to say hi, family of 5 but just mom and daughter Simone. Two other teenage boys, Simone is in 5th
grade. They are from Maryland moved here in July for an international experience. I talked with Maryann for a while while the kids swam. She was very nice. All their kids go to Country Day School. We are invited over to swim tomorrow. She tells me they went to Liberia three times before finding the mall just yesterday. I have directions… I still have doubts.
We had diner on the patio it was nice. Kids are pitching in more, both before and after diner. I am washing dishes in a new fancy way. It’s super fast too. Water, soap and a scrubber no dishwasher required! Doesn’t take an hour to run a load or anything, just clean and dry and they are ready to be put away almost immediately. Very neuveau. Kids clear the table while I wash. We are also now drinking TANG, Kiley thinks I’m tricking her. Is this orange soda?... “No”. It is! Huh? “NO”. Is it orange juice? “Nope” what is it? “TANG?” What’s that? “Uhhhhh its what’s in your glass”… I cut my finger, making diner, pretty bad but will survive kids want to know why I do that? The chicken was great BTW
fell right off the bones I mixed in some el pato looking Costa Rican stuff. Made chicken tacos. Sour cream comes in a baggie very inconvenient but cheap. I need Tupperware.
Not really sure what to do tomorrow, been go, go, go. Still a lot of things I need that will make things more comfortable. Some bins or baskets for drawer type stuff. A cutting board. (Maybe lack thereof contributed to said band aid on finger). Tupperware so I can keep leftover baggie of sour cream. A pressure cooker would be great and a rice cooker, I found out where to purchase both. I also can start looking at condos and houses anytime, see what’s out there and what it will cost. Try to figure out where we want to be so I can get Carter in school. Or see If the school will let him do one month. OOOOOOOOOOrrrrrrrrrrrrrr we could go sit and play on the beach drink coffee and eat ice cream while Kiley is in school. Hmmmm tough call….
Oh Marianne is a vegetarian so she ahs the scoop for me on the produce section. Says kids will love the spiny sea urchin looking
fruit. Will look for that. Tastes like grapes, but are locally grown. I also figure I can look up on the net how to cut papaya, mangoes etc. The stuff I can figure out just not familiar with. It always just came ready to eat out of the bag from Costco before.
Kiley said she learned a new word today nombre, but she forgot what it meant. I said well everybody has one… she smiled is it “butts” um no the first Spanish word they taught you in school was not the word for butt sorry try again.
Photo 14Here is a picture they did not like this at all.
