The past couple of days something has been in the air... When Bill asked if I wanted to take a drive with a gleam in his eye I quickly packed up some lunch and was ready to go. Drives like this start with a general idea of where Bill would like to go then we drive and see where we end up. There is no plan. We do keep maps in the car in case they’re needed to find our way back from wherever we end up but more often than not we don’t need them. Bill is an expert navigator. As long as he can find the sun we’ll never be lost. We may not know where we are or how to get back to where we came from but we’re never lost. 

This particular Sunday we headed towards San Jose on the autopista exiting at the Grecia turnoff. Instead of following the road into town we doubled back under the autopista and down a very steep road. We wound down the mountain curves and back up several times before reaching the town of Atenas. Beautiful scenery! After all the driving a potty stop was necessary. We found

a cute little café open across from the central park. Callista and I had eaten our lunch on the drive so we opted for a mocha and pina drink at the café while Bill ate his sandwich in the park with Bear. I felt we had to buy something so we could use their potty.

It’s difficult when you drive in Costa Rica to know exactly where you are. Sometimes that’s a good thing. Sometimes you just want to get lost in the moment, forget anything else matters but what you’re doing at that particular moment I love these spur of the moment drives for just that reason. It doesn’t matter where we are or where we’re going. All that matters is that we’re experiencing the adventure together whatever it may be.

PURA VIDA!
