Haven’t blogged in a while! Janne’ got into San Ramon around 2:30 on Friday afternoon without any luggage. I picked her up in the central park and we headed back to my house to quickly pack her some clothes before we headed out for the beach! To get to Paqueras, where my host uncle, my host parents, and all their other siblings have beach houses, you have to take the ferry. It takes about an hour 15 driving to get to the ferry, 70 minutes on the ferry and another 20 to get to the beach house. The house, well, more like the ‘cabin,’ isn’t right on the beach; it’s actually about 10 minutes away. We got in late Friday night, ate dinner, bought stuff for breakfast, and headed to the cabin to set up.
Saturday we woke up pretty early, ate breakfast and headed for Curu National Park. The beach was beautiful. It cost us each 10$ to get in, and only 2$ for Eli since he is from Costa Rica. We saw monkeys that were basically pets and would come really close to you. Janne’ was sick all day, but still got to enjoy the sun. It was
funny because while we were at the beach, I was the one who turned red, while Janne’ looked like she hadn’t got any sun. The next morning, I had tanned and she was the bright red one! At least she gets to return to the states with a little sun : ) That night we drove to another city for dinner and to go out, but there was no night life going on so we just headed back to sleep- as we were all exhausted from the Sun.
Sunday morning we went to a public, free beach. When we saw this beach, we realized that the 10 dollars we paid to get in to Curu was well worth it. The beach was covered with trash. It made me really sad to see such a pretty place, ruined by our messes. I asked Eli if the trash were things people had left, but he said that all the trash on this beach washes up from the ocean. How terrible.
Sunday afternoon we had a late lunch at a restaurant called bocoditos. I loved having Janne’ here because I got to try all the restaurants I have wanted to, but
hadn’t had a chance to. Later in the afternoon we went out for beers with a couple of my friends, but called it an early night and were in bed before 10.
Monday I had to wake up for school. I received an 83 on my first exam- which isn’t great but the highest score was a 90, so I’m okay with that. After my first class, Janne’ and I had lunch at my host families house and I returned to school for my second class. After school we shopped around, went to the bank, and got pedicures! The pedicures were literally the best we have ever received. The lady spent at least an hour and a half on my feet, and now they are so soft and pretty! It was only 12$ a person.. 2 for the price of 1 in the states! We ate dinner at another little place by my gym I have been wanting to go to.. Bomb loaded fries… Later that night Janne’ got some bad news, so we went out for a McFlurry, ice cream always fixes everything : )
Tuesday morning I had to get up at 5 to head to
my community service school. Janne’ got to sleep in for a bit, finally! After my classes, we went and bought her some coffee to take home and went to a little café for an afternoon snack which turned into our dinner. I had a lot of homework so we didn’t really do much, but pass the time together.
This morning she left at 5:30. I hugged her goodbye and she told me it was the longest hug she has ever received from me. I was/am so not ready for her to leave yet!
