My trip to Poas Volcano by Callista Sheridan
Poas volcano is approximately 30 kilometers (50 miles) from my house in San Ramon. Last Tuesday it took about forty minutes to get there. The weather was cloudy, cold and misty. We left home at 6:30a.m. We got to Poas National park right as they opened the gates just before 8:00a.m. We walked to the top of the mountain, about a half mile from the parking lot. We looked over the edge but couldn’t see anything because of the clouds. We could hear bubbling noises, swishing and lots of wind. We could smell something yucky. My mom said it was sulfur.
We didn’t see any animals because of the weather. My dad went off on one of the trails, Botos. He saw two birds and lots of different plants. Mom and I went on to the gift shop and café to warm up while dad explored.
I bought more miniature toys and we had hot cocoa and coffee waiting for my dad who came back an hour later soaking wet.
We left Poas and drove home past lots of strawberry farms (fresa fincas).
We stopped at a tourist stand and bought strawberries. We also stopped and bought more from a lady with bright red, ripe strawberries right on the road. They were delicious!
The trip to Poas for me was exciting, fun and delicious.

your grade ;)
As your former teacher, I'd like to give you an A+++++ on your expository writing!!! Great descriptions, Callista! I read them to the class and we all agreed that we felt like we were there! Keep these entries for your book! I can't wait to read more! Hugs, Jenn
