rental house
Our house in San Pedro.
Hello once again everyone. We are alive and well in San Pedro, Costa Rica. This will be a short blog to give a brief update as to what we’ve been doing the past few weeks. It’s windy outside this morning and my computer has lost power once already. Such is life in the campo.
First off, we had a very easy trip from California to Costa Rica. Bear did fine on the flight with the help of a mild sedative. However, he has said that he never wants to see the carrier again. He’s adjusted well to life in the country. He really enjoyed the stay at our friend’s house in Berlin as he had the run of 40 acres. Now that we are settled into our rental house in San Ramon he has less room to run free but plenty of room to roam and chase the cats. We are cautious about letting him run free as we are close to a main road and we’ve already seen way too many dogs that didn’t make it across the street in time. Those are always sad moments for us as we love animals so much.
We’ve settled into our

rental house in San Pedro. It is only a few miles outside of the town of San Ramon. The house has three bedrooms, an office, two bathrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen & an attached outside laundry room. It is a 5 minute walk to Callista’s new school. We purchased our appliances and had them in the house prior to moving in. The man who rented us the house is a furniture maker. We had him make our beds. They were delivered for our second night in the house. What a difference a good bed can make! He is now working on a dresser for Callista. Houses in Costa Rica do not have closets. We are adjusting to this as well.
We went looking for our cargo earlier this week as we’d not heard anything from the airline we shipped with. When we arrived at the cargo place near the airport we saw our tubs and found a customs agent to help us with the transaction. On Thursday morning we had a truck following us to San Ramon with all of our stuff. EVERYTHING arrived without a problem. On Friday morning we had the dining room set delivered that
had been ordered on Monday. We now have a house full of furniture. It’s so much nicer than sitting on the floor eating off paper plates. We aren’t ready to invite people over for a house warming party as yet but we’re getting closer.
We took a break from the business of getting settled yesterday and went to the Zoo in La Garita to see some wildlife. The birds, iguana’s and monkeys were a real treat. Callista wants our next excursion to be the “World of Snakes” in Grecia. What else would one expect from Callista!
We have discovered communication with the US can be a pain. Our rental house does not accept international calls. Nor can we make international calls from the house with the internet phone card we purchased. We have a friend working on obtaining a cell phone line for us which should alleviate the problem. For those expecting calls, please be patient. We’ll get it all figured out sooner or later. As for snail mail, we are not able to obtain a P.O. Box until the first of March. I’ll be the first one in line that day.

family and get breakfast started as today is a HUGE day around our house. It is the first day of school for Callista. We are all excited and a little nervous.
Now that I’ve gotten my computer set up, I’ll be able to settle into a routine of writing for the blog. With Callista in school it will be easier to get a lot accomplished!
