I want to bang on the drum all day. First Costa Rican restaurant in La Fortuna
First stop a very active volcano in Fortuna,

We stayed in San Jose just for the night at a the Costa Rica Backpackers hostel that made us happy we weren't staying longer. We had drunken girls coming in and out all night long... then at 4am we had a visit from a fellow guest yelling in our room for one of his friends to wake up. We were all thrilled and almost left on the 6am bus out of town. We opted for the 8am instead and tried to go back to sleep.

Then it was off to La Fortuna. We were glad to take the early bus because according to our waiter the 11am bus went down a cliff and injured 20 people, no fatalities. So, La Fortuna was very fortunate for us. We found a great hotel there (Hotel Paraiso Tropical) that was not too expensive and went to lunch. The adventure continued!! We ate at a very gringo oriented resturant and a baby snake decided to join us. The snake did not enjoy his lunch as much as we did, his was more of the last supper. He looked like a garden snake, but apparently

he can be quite dangerous. Ahh, the local wildlife.

The next day we went to Vulcan Arenal. We hiked the nature reserve for several hours listening to the gurgling sounds of the volcano spitting up rocks and debris. It was very cool!!
We hiked through lush forests, to lava fields from an eruption about 30 years ago, and back again. Not a shabby day. We met an amazing couple from Venezuela, and talked about politics, travel, and life in general. They were the sweetest couple!! They gave us a ride back into town too, to avoid us walking about 6 miles back to our hotel.

La Fortuna was the beginning of our affair with casados (meal of the day with a meat, veggie, and side for under $5). We found a restaurant with food so incredible we would salivate over it every night until we made our way over there, and the mango shakes were to die for!!

Next we are off to Santa Elena/Monteverde.
