DON’T IN GRAND CAYMAN !
Whatever you do don’t book a trip with Ambassador Divers! Our family recently traveled to Grand Cayman and booked two excursions with Ambassador Divers, needless to say we cancelled the second.
To start off we were picked-up at our hotel by a man who didn’t introduce him self nor had a word to say to us as we traveled back to the company’s office. A patron and a tourist would of expected some sort of greeting or “where are you from?”, “your first time to Grand Cayman?”, “you guys dive much?”
Upon arrival at the office the man got out and started walking towards the building, we were clueless as to what’s next, so I asked “should we unload or are we picking-up more patrons? He replied “no, follow me”, so we did. Entering the registration office as expected there was no welcome or personality. We’ve received better service in a Government Agency!! LOL. My wife needed to rent some equipment and was treated as if she was in boot camp. It was “here” “sign here” “go there” … SO MUCH FOR HOSPITALITY !
Later we departed with the same man who picked us up at the hotel, in the same beat-up old Chevy Suburban without AC. Needless to say, not a word from him along the way to the Marina.
At the Marina we had to wait for the rest of the patrons before boarding. Upon boarding we learned that the man who picked us up at the hotel and who drove us to the Marina was actually the Captain, we were shocked. The boat ? what a joke ! a small 22’ or so open center console with 12 adults aboard, the ride out wasn’t fun unless you like riding in a washing machine. During our visit and travel around the crew of Captain Larry and Mate were not informative at all, rather, they discussed there personal life and situation loudly speaking to each other. Some of us patrons rolled our eyes and started commenting to ourselves. The crew conversed about the living and moving to a new apartment, the special on fruit at the local grocery store, the burden that the captain’s girlfriend is putting on him. Too much personal information and unprofessional service.
Upon our return to shore they explained to us that the other van has broken down and there is only 1 little van to transport all of the patrons back to the hotels. As the crew was debating on how to fit all the people into that little van one crew member (Ash) tells the other “ the kid can sit on his mother”. Excuse me ! that’s no way to talk to anyone and “ the kid” is 13 years old. One would have expected some sympathy and consideration for the inconvenience put upon the patrons rather be treated as if it was a boot camp. We were all packaged as Sardines and hauled off.
Exiting the hotel my wife explained the crew\driver (Ash) that she need to be taken back to the registration office to pay the bill as she agreed with the booking agent that she will pay cash. He replied rather annoyed “well that will take a long time because if I take you back to the office I will have to bring you back”, HELLO…. OUR HOTEL IS ONLY 3 MILES FROM THE OFFICE. My wife insisted and he had no choice but take her.
At the office business was as usual, no different than the boot camp we attended upon arriving earlier. My wife paid cash and closed our bill, afterward asked for her American Express carbon copy back (card was ran earlier upon arrival). The attendant would not do so. With witnesses’ in the lobby they insisted that although my wife paid cash they would not return the carbon copies back to her. After words exchanged my wife reached over the counter and grabbed the carbon copy and ripped it to shreds, the attended responded by saying “ you shouldn’t have done that “ “ that will make things worst”. Who would of believed! My wife was offered a ride back to the hotel by another couple who arrived from the same tour and witnessed the scandal at the office.
So the moral of the story is DON’T BOOK YOUR DIVE OR TRIP WITH AMBASSADOR
