Hopkins Village near Dangriga, Belize After a rather exhausting week of jungle adventures, our 5 final days at the beach were just what the doctor ordered. Hopkins Village is located 15 miles south of Dangriga on the coast of Belize. The Hotel We stayed at Hamanasi Resort, which was wonderful! Every employee of the hotel had your name memorized and were the nicest people. [img=http://inlinethumb54.webshots.co [View Full Entry]

Well we are still in Placencia paradise and still loving it. I'm not sure how Lucy is going to drag me onto the plane in a couple of days' time. She'll just have to wave a credit card bill in front of me I suppose, because if I didn't have to, I wouldn't be leaving here! We've had an idyllic couple of days since I last updated you. Two days ago we booked another snorkelling trip, this time to Laughing Bird Caye, which is set in a Marine Reserve about 12 miles from Paradise (as I've renamed Placencia). We went with [View Full Entry]

Leaving Belize City
Caye Caulker
Island paradise

Well - we are really on the countdown now. Just one more full day to go in Belize, before we start the journey home. We have a night in LA and hopefully some shopping in Santa Monica to sweeten the bitter pill... but seriously I am going to have some real re-entry problems. I made the mistake of logging on to my work email today and it all feels a little too real. We have had a busy time since my last blog. Who would have believed that life in a seaside village could be so action packed. We have been [View Full Entry]

Biking

As always, we've had a great day. This will be a short entry, given I've given you a fuller update this morning. The day was action packed! Breakfast for a couple of hours in the Secret Garden, followed by a facial. Wonderful! I couldn't get a massage as I have gotten a bit sunburnt. But even this has its uses - we went snorkelling the other day with a couple from the States, at Laughing Bird Caye. I was wearing a yellow bikini, and was keeping close to our guide Gerald (part man part fish as you may recall). They thought [View Full Entry]

Bike ride to Seine Bight
Beach at Seine Bight
Placencia beach

So, here we now are in Placencia. And boy it's good... before we came we had booked 2 nights at our hotel. When we arrived we extended it by a further 2 nights and we've now decided that we will stay here until we leave. Placencia is a tiny peninsula on the south east coast of Belize. Just 12 years ago, it was a fishing village with 12 houses, processing conch and lobster for export to Jamaica. It's fair to say it's been "discovered", but it is still incredibly laid back and just the kind of place you want to be [View Full Entry]

I thought it was hell that was supposed to be hot, but I'm truly in heaven and it's damn hot. I'm not complaining, don't get me wrong, but it's very hot indeed. I spent most of the morning in the water, and anyone who knows me will tell you how unusual that is. Hot and gorgeous here - here being Placencia, in the south of Belize. Yesterday morning Lucy and I flew from Caye Caulker to Belize. For people who are interested in such things, we flew in a 208B Grand Caravan, which seats 12 passengers. Lucy and I shamelessly threw [View Full Entry]

Tiny plane, tiny airstrip

hey guys. so unfortunately we can't upload any pics so you'll have to rely on the power of imagination. all here is well, we've had a busy couple of days and are just now finding time to sit down and reflect about them. we spent a lazy xmas morning on the beach followed by a long 4 mile kayak adventure out to some of the cayes off of placencia penninsula. later we enjoyed an awesome 4 course meal at a local restuarant run by a couple who also run a spa in the area - AJ finally had his stake and [View Full Entry]

hey guys, so we just lost 2 blog entires and are feeling a little frustrated about the internet connection. so in brief we've made it here, we love our cabin, we're tanned, well-fed, hot and relaxed. We've been keeping busy with bike rides, swimming, snorkeling and exploring. We appologize for the lack of photos but the internet connection makes it really hard to get them up - we'll keep trying. So for now, Merry Chirstmas. We're going out kayaking for the day tomorrow to visit some of the closer cayes and do some more snorkeling. We'll give this another shot in [View Full Entry]

It was the weirdest thing in the world to cross the boarder into Belize and all the sudden be reading signs in English. We had to adjust to speaking English, although the local language is Garifuna, the people also speak using a sing-song English that is a blast to listen to. The bottom line is that we don't know which language to use. While here in Belize we plan to spend copious amounts of time on the beach. I am also having a drum handmade by a drum maker here in Dangriga, the town we are at. The drum maker's name [View Full Entry]
