We found a reasonable hotel in San Inagnacio- only costs less than 8 quid for both of us so I suppose we can't expect the earth. The mattress was quite possibly the most uncomfortable one I have ever had the misfortune to sleep on, indeed Trev suffered a few wounds from a rogue spring poking through!
We went on a river tour today through the Belizean jungle. We got taken in the back of a truck a few miles out of town which was a bumpy, windy ride to say the least. We arrived deep in the jungle at a wooden lodge where our tour guide lived. Up the hill were some Mayan ruins which had not yet been cleared, so we tramper through jungle to get there. Every foot step I cringed, wondering what was underfoot, whilst Trev was turning over stones looking for god know what. My kind of hell, as anyone that knows me will know. Fortunately we didnt stay too long, and off we went down for the river tour. I was very brave, and Trev was very proud of me for not crying like a girl.
We went in a canoe about 14k down river,
which I should imagine was bloody hard work for the tour guide! It was amazing looking at all the wildlife, there were loads of cool fish and pretty birds and bats and huge trees. God knows what they were called, but they looked cool. We saw a cow standing in the shade in the river which was random. We didn't see anyone else all day.
We had to help with the rowing later on in the day- Trev and I shared the work of one person, we were very worn out! Our guide takes part in a competition each year when they row for 3 days to Belize city- so we figured he was fit and could take it better than us!
PLanning on heading off soon to Guatemala to check out the ruins at Tikal, and then to Antigua! Yay!
Off now to see if anyone has set up a barbeque yet for some more chicken and rice.
