Well I am actually writing this final entry from my friends flat in Bristol on a very wet rainy summers day back in Blighty whilst trying to conjure up a different kind of watery experience! I already feel a long way away from the sand and beaches of Belize, and its getting harder to go back a just a few weeks and remember what it was like so I had better get this written before it disappears entirely...... I'll just have another cup of tea first though....... One of the trickiest things with a boat is working out how long it will take you to get somewhere. You have a fairly limited speed range and all sorts of factors which affect it. While we were sailing we calculated the distance for our journey and then figured ... read more

I'm coming home in 2 weeks (yeah!!), so my days have been filled with preparations, packing, and doing all the things it seemed like I would have plenty of time to do, but now am scrambling to fit in. Like diving. When I first arrived I went snorkeling quite a bit. And being that most of that was done on the island side of the reef, the water is shallow enough to feel very involved and close to the ocean life. So I didn't see the benefit of diving and didn't push it. Today, however, I dove for the first time! I've been reading the PADI certification book quite a bit, so was a little familiar with terminology and procedures. But it was nothing like jumping in the water today! My biggest fear was breathing. Would ... read more

Here are some more links on the storm. It's quite amazing what mother nature can bring in a short period of time and with no warning. http://www.nemo.org.bz/nemonews/news_releases/article_335.php http://tacogirlblog.blogspot.com/ http://www.lovefm.com/... read more

Tropical Storm Arthur 1 day before the official start of the hurricane season, and we experienced our first tropical storm. Tropical storm Arthur developed right over the island on the last day of May. Now June 1st is when the official hurricane season starts worldwide. However in Belize, they consider the hurricane season to be Sept and Oct. Last year everyone was surprised to have Dean so early in August. We experienced this storm as rain all day the first and second day, and no one was anticipating it to increase. However, last night the tropical storm gained some energy. I awoke about 2am to lots of wind, rain, thunder and lightening. After sleeping off and on throughout the night, I awoke to find what the storm had brought in. In my apartment it brought water. ... read more

So the reality of the blog is that this wonderful trip is now over by about 2 weeks...but I still have 2 more posts to do! So here goes: Chill out. Relax. Chillax! The Official Mom Section of the trip began in Belize City. I arrived early to the airport with my iPod and waited for her arrival. Although a bit late, she finally came drudging out of the passenger area and bellows "You don't know the HeLL I have just been through!" Yowza! Turns out the customs guy wanted a specific location for her 1st night in Belize. Amidst all the hubbub, she could only assure this man that her son was waiting on the other side of the door with all of the appropriate information. He graciously wandered around to find me but somehow ... read more

Hello friends, This edition of the blog is going to cover quite a bit of time and locations. We tackled the Yucatan peninsula and Belize over the last 10 days or so. We have done alot! AFter our caves and volcanoes in Guatamala, Dave and I did an epic 16 hour day of bus rides to arrive in the deeply important city of Cancun. We passed through many small villages and beautiful jungles. It was hard to appreciate these bus vistas, however, as our bodies were perpetually covered in boiling sweat. Normally bus passengers pass the time by chatting to each other about their home countries and past travels. The energy required to hold these types of conversations proved to be too much for anyone on the bus. We spent the 16 hours mostly nursing our ... read more

25th February 2008 We had arranged a Boat trip for today with Ragamuffin tours. It was a full days snorkel(snurkel)/booze cruise around the coral reef just off the coast of Caye Caulker. So we all got onboard our sail boat and met Captain Charlie & Jermain the two crew men. First Job for the crew was to introduce themselves and then blare out full volume Reggae Music for our enjoyment. First of all we sailed to the Coral Gardens. This area of the reef was the closest to the island & was a very young reef & we were told this would be a good place to get used to our equipment. As becci has never Snorkled before she had a brief while I dived in to explore. Straight away I saw a number of small ... read more

24th February 2008 Today we had a chance to experience the Chicken Buses. We had the chance in Guatemala but we were told by chimi and other people it was far too risky & the fact that one person did not show for the trip, the group had enough budget for private transport. Chicken buses if you don't already know are old American School buses shipped out after their service to these counrties for the public bus transport. The reason they are named chicken buses as far as I know.... is because the locals use them to transport themselves and anything including there chickens so the buses are called Chicken buses. Anyway we left our Hotel by taxi in the morning and were dropped off at downtown San Ignacio at the bus stop. After spending 30 ... read more

Route: Mexico City - Oaxaca - San Cristobal de las Cases - Merida - Tulum After various emotional farewells across England we finally arrived in Mexico City, it had been a long time coming! Our flight was thankfully uneventful with the only thing of note being the TV system breaking down half way through the journey and with about half an hour left of Michael Clayton - I´ll assume Clooney saved the day and the bad drug company was brought to justice. We spent a few days in Mexico City mostly just wandering around visiting the various sights on the main Zocalo (apparently the third biggest square in the world). Amongst all these attractions (National Palace, Cathedral, Museum, Aztec ruins...) was the jewel in the Mexican crown - a bloke covered in Silver paint doing ... read more
