Barbados, what can I say! We stayed in St Lawrence Gap at ' Time Out' for 7 days. The hotel was across the road from Dover beach, a beautiful beach, the clubs and bars were in walking distance and Oistins was down the road. Oistins is the place to be on a Friday night, fresh fish, music and some dancing. It was a really nice atmosphere, but what struck us us immediately was that there was soo many tourists- throughout our stay there we discovered that the majority of them were British! Very unlike St Lucia, where we only bumped into 3 British tourists for the whole time we were there!

Our hotel was ok, a bit pricy for what it was esp compared to St Lucia, the staff were either not very friendly or over friendly- couldn't really win with them! We were gonna do a tour but it was $280 Barbados for the both of us, so we decided to rent a car instead. If you can call it that. We rented a Suzuki Moke, a bit of a joke- it didn't even have any doors, it was a convertible though, we had a plastic roof that we could unattach. It proved to be quite useful on the second day when it started pouring down with rain, yes it was raining cats and dogs so we had to make a U turn and head back as we were on our way to a beach. On the first day, however, we managed to cover some serious ground, we drove around the whole islands and visited a beach or two, and a cove. The beaches in Barbados are some of the nicest we have seen since we have been away.

On Monday we did our first dive in the Caribbean with a company called ProDive down in the Gap. We expected clear blue water, which we got, the visibilty was great but we didn't see anything new really except for a turtle. The water was a bit rough as well, so I had to get towed the first time we went in to the other side of the boat as I am not a strong enough swimmer. It cost 90USD, for 2 dives, not bad but I am sure it would have been better in Cancun!

We had a big plan of all of the places that we were meant to go out to whilst we were there but we were soo exhausted ( from doing what I don't know) that we only managed to make it out once, to the Ship Inn on Thursday night, which was a really good night as it turned out, but again it kinda felt like we were back in England!

We did go to a beautiful restaurant called 'The Cliff', which is up in St James. Breathtaking. It was situated above a little cove, and on a cliff edge. We had intended to go for a cocktail or 2 but I was driving so we made it non-alcoholic. We were just soo awestruck at how beautiful it was, even though it was dark you could still see the azure colour of the sea and it was crystal clear. If we had got there earlier we could have seen the sting rays being fed at the mouth of the cove. We asked to see a menu, just in case we could afford anything, and surprise surprise we couldn't, but it was only 60GBP for 2 course, which is not bad really, but not for our budget. Our waiter, Sebastian took pity on us and asked us what we wanted from the dessert menu- I got a Apple Crumble and Kay got a gorgeous Hot Chocolate pie with Vanilla ice cream, you know like that one from the M & S advert. Both were absolutely dreamy, especially since they were on the house!!!!!!!!!! Then we were given a tour of the restaurant by Michael, we were seated in the lounge which was plush enough, but the actual restaurant was just, well, breathtaking again. Kay and I always manage to find these really romantic spots, and we are always stuck with each other!

So, the ultimate question, would I go back to Barbados again? The beaches were dreamy, the people were nice but we did get hassled quite a bit. it would be nice to go as part of a couple I think (hint hint). The beaches were definitely nicer than they were in St Lucia, but St Lucia was just different, it had a more personal feel to it, much less touristy even though we were staying in Rodney Bay which is where all the action happens. Also in St Lucia you get much more for your money. But both Islands equally as beautiful in their own right. I think the next stop in the Caribbean will be Jamaica- can't wait!
