These two sea days are taking their toll on the little grey cells. There are up to five trivia session a day so I won't write about our progress unless something eventful happens. I don't want you to think we come on a cruise just to play trivia. It would be cheaper to join a local pub team!! So, five trivia played. Won three. The last one was tough in as much as I knew Yaks milk is pink, Charlie Chaplin's cane was made from Bamboo and the eldest Marx brother was Harpo. Despite knowing these we still managed to put the wrong answer. When you have amassed so much trivial knowledge it's inevitable that the odd snippet will get misfiled somewhere in your brain. Cette année, tout le monde le dit (au Nord comme au Sud), la saison est exceptionnelle, dans le sens où elle nous donne de façon intense et continue une caractéristique du climat. Au Québec c’est le froid et la neige alors qu’aux Antilles c’est le vent et la mer… Ici, le vent souffle toujours en haut de 15 nœuds, principalement de l’Est et presque du Sud-Est, il y a même eu du Sud-Ouest, ce qui donne une mer agitée avec une houle de Sud-Ouest dans la baie de Fort-de-France… et un mouillage agité dans la baie de Ste-Anne. Disons que les nuits ne sont pas aussi reposantes qu’elles pourraient l’être mais ça peut aller. Well its been a couple of relaxing days since leaving Fort Lauderdale, quite windy and a bit of roll n roll on the boat as well, doesn't bother us though. We have met some lovely people aboard, majority Americans I think around 1500, 299 Australians, Canadians, Brazilians, Chinese from Hong Kong, Turks, English, 30 odd New Zealanders so a bit of a mix. Hutch the guy who did all our pre port lectures on our World Cruise is also on this cruise, also have met 6 passengers who were on our world cruise as well, amazing! This ship, being a third again bigger than what we have travelled on before, seems to have a lot more space, certainly more speciality restaurants and bars. Thursday 18th December, 2014. Antigua, British Leeward Islands, West Indies A 'beach with an island in the middle' is a great way to describe this island. Antigua and its little sisters Barbuda and Redonda are the most developed of the 4 British Leeward Islands. Antigua is the largest and is roughly circular in shape and about 12 miles in diameter and has more than 350 spectacular beaches with gleaming pink-white sand backed by gently waving palms. Rainfall is low which accounts for the fact that there are no rivers. The original inhabitants around 4,000 years ago disappeared mysteriously, leaving the island uninhabited for nearly 10 centuries. By the time Christopher Columbus (CC) arrived on his second voyage in the late 15th century, the Arawak Indians were in residence, followed closely by the Caribs. Antigua, the first settlement dates back to 2400 B.C. Antigua and Barbuda are located in the centre of the Leeward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean. Antigua is the largest of all English speaking Leeward Islands and has a population of 85,000. Antiguan’s love their cricket and is home to some of the best players ever to play the game, namely Viv Richards, Richie Richardson, Curtly Ambrose and Andy Roberts. Today we did a tour of Nelson’s Dockyard who in 1784 would have had little reason to believe that the port would develop into one of Great Britain’s most important military bases. The influence of Admiral Nelson can be seen in the dramatic architecture of the forts that dominate the landscape.
