Jan 2009 Weather Fortunately, while we were in Oahu we experienced great weather. Kauai on the other hand was a whole lot of rain. As for the water temperature, I found it to be alarmingly cold. Keep in mind I'm used to the warmer Atlantic Ocean, so my gauge may be a bit biased.
What was the weather look like in Jan. 2009? Hi
Nice blogs overall. Thanks.
What was the weather look like in Jan. each year? Did you swim a lot? What is the ocean temprature when you were there? We may go, but heard the weather is a main concern. Is that bad, or no?
Driving In my experience, the driving was a sizeable drawback if you're trying to cram several things in for a short trip. The road conditions were good, however often low speed limits and mainly two lane roads. This is especially true up north. Traffic seemed heavier at times when you would expect based on work commutes.
If you're just talking about a day up north, the drive is more tolerable as you enjoy the scenery. If you expect to spend several days up north, my preference would be to stay somewhere up there.
Hope this helps. Enoy your visit. The views from the trail along Na Pali coast are amazing!
driving My wife and I are considering going to Kauai in a few months. We want to spend lots of time around the Na Pali coast but seemed that the more affordable hotels were on the opposite side of the island - so how bad was the drive? just the distance a problem? the roads? traffic?
Souvenir peddlers We experienced the same thing in Chichen Itza, the Mayan ruins in Mexico. The trip sounds eerily similar, with the exception being that the stones were arranged in a different design. :-)
You guys are doing a great job with the photos!
Enjoy the beaches, man... the BEACHES!
Enjoyed getting an update on your vacation...must be the other Brian who drinks Guiness. Looking forward to more pictures and details over the next 2 weeks! Where's Tegan - I only see pictures of the fly guy?
mmmm Guiness... I AM glad to hear its readily available, I was dreading the thought that I might have to suffer our trip on water!
I'm happy to hear your trip is going well, and even happier you're finding the time to update your blog, while everything is still fresh in your mind. :-)
Safe travels, and I eagerly await the next entry.

btw: Don't waste time on the Towers or the Central Market in KL.
.. I know it's an old post, but I just want to say I enjoyed your posts from Denmark very much. I am a Dane living 10 minutes from Copenhagen.
I applaud your sense of really capturing the feel of Copenhagen, and naming most sights correctly :). The thing I do not understand is; why so many people (particularly Americans) are disappointed by 'The Little Mermaid'. Admitted, she is kind of small - but does a sight need to be large to be worth visiting? She is a symbol, and she most be viewed with that in mind - atleast in my opinion.
But overall very enjoyable reading, and I hope you'll come back some day :).
Hiya! Hey
I just did a search for people who had been to, and written about, the fjords in Norway and came across you :) So i've been reading the rest of your blog too. You sound like you've been having a blast in Europe.
Oh, but i must correct you...it's COVENT Garden ;)
Happy travels
Showing some skin Interesting bit of reading.... looks like your avian friend was lost, shouldn't he have been at Coch's Castle?
I must admit that I found the pictures a little lacking, considering the strong undertones of this blog. Cochs Castle, peacocks, lingerie... and all you have to show is some old ramblers?
And whats up with the UK millenium theme? Compare the stadium in Cardiff with the dome in London. Must have had the same unimaginative architech. Although the stadium pic does seem keep with the theme of Cardiff.
Thanks for the insight. Matt Anderson, our in-the-field reporter. Now on to Sports and the weather.
Laughing waiter? Damn, I would have straight up laughed my ass off and talked really loud like the "stereotypical american tourist" until they wanted to get me my check so I can leave. - Le vrai G.
Re: Accent Yeah, I found myself trying to fake an accent over there, was Lei doing it too? When it happens, you got to catch yourself, and instantly plunge into a really bad Austrian accent, then introduce yourself as a disposable lighter technician from Mexico.
By the way, have you hit up any of the street vendors for fish and chips? I'd probably be eating that and indian cuisine non-stop over there.
Y'all be safe.
Service? What service? I'm sure you probably know this by now but... tipping is really not that customary there so service really doesn't exist.
While in London last week, G and I sat for at least 20-30min waiting for the bill while our waiter sttod by the bar laughing and watching the telly with the other wait staff.
Have another pint on me,

Gotta love MySpace It would seem, based on comment dates, that your mysterious travel blog was a well kept secret until you posted a link on MySpace. Al and I not leaving our comments until well into 8 months later.
As for my comments... that trip rocked and I can't wait for this years bonanza. Between Al's lost posessions, Chuck Norris' roundhouse kicks to the face, the ultra intense adrenoline rush of big money betting on football games, and meeting cool new people I had a great time.
I am finding myself utterly impressed, and somewhat perplexed, on how you managed you remember all these facts regarding our trip. Even as you wrote this, way back then, I don't think I was capable of remembering my own name yet!
btw: Always bet on the Giants, it's a lock baby!
Cockshott Wudup!
Hope you're enjoying the travels. Get caught in any of that nasty airport nonsense yet? Looks like you'll have to move the vaseline to your checked luggage for your trip to Norway; so much for joining the mile high club, although I'm not sure you're allowed to valididate your own membership.
Keep up the postings. It's a pleasant distraction in my now overly tedious work day. (Work after vacations ALWAYS blows hard. Quite frankly, I'm cockshott already.)
Peace,

Editorial Correction. Sheeit, the airplane girl definitely dropped the digits. And even though that was the last we heard from her, that was a great start to the trip.
One tip from captain obvious: If they're not letting you into the club inside the Hard Rock within 5 minutes of standing at the ropes, then you're not getting in, not unless you have 3 benjis in your hand. Don't be a sucka and spend one of your preciously few nights standing there, hoping to get in. There's plenty of nightlife all around.
The "if-you're-still-reading-tip": A trip to Vegas the weekend before Christmas is... [drumroll]... kinda empty. There are many pros and cons to this like lower table minimum bids, shorter lines at restaurants/clubs, less traffic, more attention from cocktail servers, santa claus little helper outfits, and all the intensity of the final weeks of football to name a few pros. Cons, well, if you like people, there's less people.
It's never too late to get bit by the travel bug!
I'm fairly new to the whole international travel game. I'm hoping over the next several years to fill most of my free time with grand adventures overseas. I've got a long list of destinations where I hope to build numerous friendships and lifelong memories. Enjoy my ramblings as I document my experiences...... full info

Hope y'all are having fun. I have to wonder how Remy would get along with those monkeys. Bring him next time!
