I am Chris' mother!
Dear Xiaoming! As a former photographer I just want to say how much I enjoy viewing your pictures. I think Chris was lucky to have met you, and I will probably hear a lot more about you when he returns tomorrow. The world is still a beautiful place, isn't it? We just have to have some courage to take part in it. I still travel too but adventures like that are not a physical possibility at this stage of my life. Thanks for the treat and take care. all i can say is wow
Looks like you're doing well out there. Its interesting how unitegrated things are...its not surprising, but I guess what is surprising is the lack of attempt. I know from friends that China has been very proactive about integration in HK. Granted it is HK (more money and "face" at stake), but they go as far as administering surveys every so often to see if their integration measures have worked. So over the past few years since HK was returned, more and more folks see themselves as chinese rather than "hong kong people" and "british". Don't know the exact integration measures...but my relatives and friends from HK say that the olympics and THE earthquake brought the nation together (in their eyes at least). I'm curious if these folks from the remote parts of china were able to view the olympics/earthquate and experience that national pride/sorrow...or is communication with the rest of china/world a major roadblock in the integration process... Anyway, be safe and keep sending these updates. Very cool man.

Well said...
...it seems that the realities that most of us have constructed for ourselves are filled with way too many superficial (and consequently marginally meaningful) pursuits - ostensibly we all know (and loathe) this, but I think the inertia is too hard to overcome for nearly all of us - glad you are going against the grain. Wishing you all the best, good times, and safe travels out there! Who knows, maybe I'll pull a last minute audible and join you for some part of the trip. Make sure to take care of you know who in Macau - that kid gets crazy around that stuff!! Catch you later... B
