Great stories!
I read your latest enthusiastic entry, Sarah. It sounds like you are getting a great deal of work accomplished. It reminds me of how my dream was always to be a wildlife biologist (in Alaska, not Africa, however), and I'm glad you're living my dream!

Lola sana
Hi Sarah! It's obvious you're having an amazing time. Lots to say, but not publicly so I'll just say here that Lola is doing grand... she has a new best friend in my niece and Zoe just loves having a friend to romp with. Can't wait to hear more stories, see pictures and videos! -Jessica

Excited :-)
I am so glad you have gotten so much good work done and that this trip was exactly what you needed :-) I can't wait to see you again back here in the states and hear all about everything! Ninapenda sana! (You'll have to teach me how actually to say this when you get home!) Patty

Patty, you are so sweet! Thank you for this sweet message :). And I gigantic congratulations for passing your orals!!! That’s awesome! That’s one huge thing to feel good about, and to check off your to-do list, eh?! I’m getting ready to head into the park this morning, which I LOVE to do, so I’m planning to have a good day.. I hope you do too, and I’ll talk to you soon! I don’t know if there is a way to say, “with love” in Swahili.. to say I like/love… you would say “ninapenda sana…. “ :)

Bonuses, Trucks & Orals
Hello there You! What great fun to give bonuses and have them received so joyfully :-) I'm glad you have such a trustworthy assistant, and it is fun to hear about you giving rides. I can totally picture you yelling out the window, "Hey, where you going? Hop in the back and I'll take you there!" You are such a giving person, and I'm sure you fit in wonderfully. On a personal note, I passed my Oral Exams today, and the ladies and Adam took me out to dinner. I enjoyed Ethiopian food for the first time, and it was quite the experience! We miss you and can't wait to see your beautiful face and all your wonderful pictures! Much love (what is love in Swahili?), Patty

Hey Kirsten, Thank you so much! Always fun to get a nice message from a friend, especially while I'm out here in the middle of no where :). It's a beautiful day and I'm sitting in front of my tent under the shade of my banda (thatch roofed structure), getting ready to deal with some elephant poop. Good to know someone is reading what I'm writing- enjoy classes and say hi to everyone for me.. Talk to you soon!

Hey! I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy reading your blog, and how we are all thinking of you. Today is the first day of class and you are literally and figuratively worlds away! It's hard to imagine, from both sides I'm sure. I'm sorry you have had a rough couple of days. That sounds crushing, but you see the good in everything anyway. I have so much admiration for your strength and resilience. Have fun chasing elephants!

Have a great first field trip!
I guess you won't read this until you return from the field, but good luck! I'm sure you'll have a blast, and I bet the tembo will remember you :-) Can't wait to see photos!

Elephant Poop
Haha, I love that transporting elephant dung across the boarder is the biggest political process you will have to overcome! Glad to hear it's all gonna work out :-)

Yay, you're blogging!
Glad to hear you made it. What fortune--I'm just getting ready to turn off the computer for two weeks--we just finished packing the car for our canoe trip and will be hopping in the car in mere minutes. Whew. Vacation is finally here. Now we drive 1,200+ miles to canoe many fewer miles. Talk to you at the end of the month, Sarah.
