"Every time I see an adult on a bicycle, I no longer despair for the future of the human race."
-H. G. Wells

My Philosophy:
Socrates, kindness, karma. The world is in chaos. Honorable dealing is deteriorating, good friends are few, truth is held in disrepute, good service is underpaid, poor service is over paid. Whole nations are committed to evil dealings: with one you fear insecurity, with another, inconsistency, with a third betrayal. This being what it is, let the bad faith of others serve not as an example, but a warning. The real danger of the situation lies in the unhinging of your own integrity: accepting less than your best, being overly tolerant of stupidity, forgiving incompetence, fraternizing with the non spiritual. The man of principle never forgets what he is, because he clearly sees what the others are. I pursue to internalize the existence of absolute beauty, neither putting the objects in place of the idea nor the idea in the place of objects. I believe in travel, nature, energy, and second chances.

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan, 'Press on,' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.... read more

The trip has come to a close and my feet are back to solid ground in Salt Lake City. When I initially left D.C. I never could have dreamed of what this trip would entail. I am a better person for it. My life will forever be changed by those who I came into contact with. I love you all and hold a deep respect for all our memories we shared. Much love to you all. Thanks again. Sincerely Patrick Kyle Henry ... read more

Tim and I write you from San Francisco...what a place! Two seconds after riding in we gathered ourselves and took off into the night with Liza & Spencer. Great night...great couple of nights. We plan to be out here for a few days and become civilized once again before taking off into nature, north, Oregon. We are very lucky to have such great friends making a life for themselves in San Fran. I leave you with a paragraph from Walden. Thanks again for reading. PeaceP@ Shams and delusions are esteemed for the soundest truths, while reality is fabulous. If men would steadily observe realities only, and not allow thesmselves to be deluded, life, to compare it with such things as we know, would be like a fairy tale. If we respected only what is inevitable and ... read more

Tim and I are now baptized from the desert. 9 strait days in the sand, heat and loads of heavy heavy water. We are now in Yosemite National Park, Tim is getting his bikes chain fixed, I am relaxing, excited to have internet access. In place of the heat we now have massive mountain passes and bears to think about, perhaps we will take a bear with us as a pet. Inspirational thought: Tim and I are true brothers. We work seamlessly with one another, always reading each others mind on cue. We look like two characters out of a grungy mountain book; ready to take on anything. Total miles this trip is a little over 500 miles...and those are again desert miles, so add another 1000 to that and we'll be even (: Thanks again ... read more

Thou dost presume too much, poor needy wretch, To claim a station in the firmament Because thy humble cottage, or thy tub, Nurses some lazy or pedantic virtue In the cheap sunshine or by shady springs, With roots and pot-herbs; where thy right hand, Tearing those humane passions from the mind, Upon whose stocks fair blooming virtues flourish, Degradeth nature, and benumbeth sense, And, Gorgon-like, turnes active men to stone. We not require the dull society Of your necessitated temperance, Or that unnatural stupidity That knows nor joy nor sorrow; nor your forc'd Falsely exalted passive fortitude Above the active. This low abject brood, That fix their seats in mediocrity, Become your servile minds; but we advance Such virtues only as admit excess. Brave, bounteous acts, regal magnificence, All-seeing prudence, magnanimity, That knows no bound, and ... read more

I am 3 days away from the next bicycle adventure. Tim (the buddy I am going to ride with) has arrived home from Thailand and the investment is underway. I have become more favorable to the thought of cycling shorts; even though spandex isn't my thing I hold the hope that wearing them will kick up the miles throughout the desert. This time around I am losing most of my bicycle weight...a complete downsizing of gear. I hold moderation close to my heart but extreme minimization always sounds appealing. Absolute bare minimum. Tim and I have some great opportunities lying ahead and I want to take notice of who Tim is to the world. Together we have been brothers since the 3rd grade, best friends, life inspirations, and personalities which keep each other on even keels. ... read more

Nothing better than riding into your home town. Today is the 4th day back. I have been reuniting with old friends and relaxing. But the real point of this blog is one of complete sincerity to those people around me which have create a bond of friendship and love. I hope everyone who reads this will take a moment to realize those around them, who make life memorable and complete, and a life one worth living. My inspiration comes from them in complete humbleness, compete awe, and total respect. I hope we all journey in life for the matters which count most, for change and perseverance, and for the equity of everlasting friendship. I ... read more

I have decided to post one more time before I get back to the road in 10 days time. This is just another chapter in my adventure across America. I am back in Virginia with the family. The funeral over and North Carolina behind me, the thought of miles adding up had me wondering...how many miles have I traveled in the past year. From Utah to Houston to Costa Rica, Panama City to Granada Nicaragua. Costa Rica back to Utah all traveled along side Tim. A plane flight to Virginia, up to DC for the Inauguration where I stayed with Rory and visited Justin and Mike. From there I took off to Troy New York via bus to visit Steph and Laura, not to forget Jenn and Josh. A bus ride back down through Albany, NYC, ... read more

Fayetteville has made itself out to be "that" town which will draw me back to Arkansas. The beautiful people which I have run into speak southern hospitality. In the beginning stage of Fayetteville I couchsurfed with Drew Swayne. Everyone would be better off for having this guy in their life. Under his wing I was taken to Eureka Springs. Speechless on what an amazing place this was...and it still wonders my mind how I encountered the band I met earlier in Little Rock. So there we are browsing the shops, taking in the art, candy shops, and trinket spaces when, from the street..."PATRICK!" Kyle from Poor Boy Tango dashes out of the moving car and runs up with a greeting hug. Kyle, Trish and Patrick have drove up to play a show; Matt, Rob and Chris ... read more
