Left Whangarei Airport at 655-am - Paul took us in his car - thanks Paul - and said farewell to Jennifer. Flew from Auckland to Christchurch and then onto Dunedin - very strong southerlies and very bumpy landing and long descent - we were told to remove hats and hold onto our belongings when we got off!! Rental car from Pegasus was horrible, filthy dirty inside, door handles missing, back windscreen wiper missing so we went to Hertz and got another car - Toyota Camry - low kms and very nice! Met Ashlee and Patrick and Studholme Hall and got guided tour from RA - she was nice - Jen's room on the 4th floor - same as Ben's floor but different number. Walked to Ashlee and Patrick's place and had a beautiful lunch - thanks ... read more

It was booked for 1-pm today and we were all ready - Jennifer has spent the previous night at a house warming party at her friend Jessie's house so came home very tired! After a quick nap and phone call to the Ballistic Blonds - it was all on! We got there just in time to see the previous sky dive come down - it was brilliant. Jen got all rigged up and instructed again - signed the form - and up she went! Check out the photos - the wind was quite strong so they took their time coming down!! Look at her expressions!!... read more

Today Ben and I went on the Otaika Valley Walkway - we were dropped off by my dad at the beginning of the track and then off we went. Up up and more upwards we went. It was a fair old way up the hill but we finally made it to the top - then off across paddocks and over stiles back to civilisation and the Tourist Info Centre where we were kindly picked up by our friendly chauffeur in the new car!... read more

Leigh and I went for an early walk to the Lighthouse at Tutukaka - it was low tide at 940 so we set off early at 745 from Whangarei - did not see many people about? The tide was still going out so a bit of a tricky crossing but we got there - I went up to the lighthouse but Leigh set off back to the steps - a long way up! proof in the picture - I went up to the lighthouse and down again in 12 mins! Back to the nearest beach for tea and coffee - Leigh was daring enough for a swim! Back home for gardening and food shopping.... read more

I can't beat Carrie's blog but I did enjoy the Waipu Caledonian Games which took place on a cloudy morning - the rain held off - we sat and watched the highland dancing, the Waipu country dancing, the bagpipes piping and also the events in the arena. The best one was throwing a stone on a big stick - I think its called the hammer! Patrick with the green socks on won this one! We watched Alex climb the wall - it was very hot and difficult - I'm impressed that he got half way up! Lunch was sandwiches while we watched the parade and the mass highland fling then off the the pancake rocks at Waipu Cove. Check out the videos only one seems to work!... read more

December 25th 2007

It is the end of another Christmas Day at the Dodd household here in New Zealand. It is supposed to be summer but, as usual, there is sun, rain, wind and cloud! We had breakfast first and then opened stockings and checked out what santa sent us this year! Then Carrie, Alex, Beb/Oma, George/Grandad came over for the Secret Santa opening ceremony - we all pick a name out of the hat and spend up to 40 dollars on that one person only! It is fun and cheaper! Then the rest of the family arrived for lunch - everyone had something to bring and it was well worth the wait - YUMMY! A break for present opening for the under 18 years old crowd and then dessert - pavlova was very good - almost as nice ... read more
