November 27th 2006

Dear friends and family - I have decided to move to Dublin, Ireland. You are welcome to visit any time of the year. Love, Theresa P.S. I think I have an unhealthy obsession with Ireland at this point. I write to you from the airport since I am so early that I am not even able to check in just yet. I guess I have to leave in a few hours for London...which makes me sad haha. I'm sure I will fall in love with London just the same. But we'll see about that! A little about my weekend in Dublin... Arrived before lunch Saturday morning and took a bus to catch the DART train system to Dun Laoghaire (pronounced Done Leary) to find my hostel. After having lugged my luggage up the stairs and being ... read more

Hope everyone had lots of trick or treaters and watched tons of scary movies. As for me, I didn´t eat a single piece of candy nor did I go to a haunted house. The young crowd here celebrates Halloween to a certain extent. They usually just go out to a club or bar like every other night until all hours of the morning dressed up as something scary (dead nurse, vampire, zombie, etc...). They don´t nearly dress as creative, funny, cute as the college kids at home haha. April and I were 80´s rockstars...complete with brightly colored leggings, side pony tails, bright makeup, rockstar shirts, and crazy necklaces. Lucky for me, my friend SHELLEY came to visit for a couple days, and though she had no costume, she still came out to El Kapital - a ... read more

So we went to Barcelona last week and it has been a while since I had time to really update for everyone. I´m sorry it´s been so long!! We had a horrible bus ride into the city (an OVERNIGHT bus....but never again! the whole bus was ripe with dirty people). On zero sleep, we trudged around town to the amazing Museu Picasso. Picasso did a lot of his work in Barcelona including some works from his blue period. We visited the cathedral as well on that Saturday and then Wes & I went to the hostel for a 5 hour nap so we could go out again. After all that we went out to the fountain show in the main plaza next to the stadium they used for the 1992 Olympics (right?) where there were sooo ... read more

So we went to Toledo, Spain which is right outside of Madrid by an hour bus ride. Toledo is most famous for it´s cathedral...therefore, I have a lot of pictures of it on here. Construction began in 1226 and lasted 250 years... can you believe that? We visited Santo Tome, a 14th century church where St. Augustine and St. Stephen were said to have visited for the burial of a local count. El Greco painted a replica of the famous burial which includes both saints, angels, and the keys to heaven. It´s a fabulous work of art, and sorry because pictures are not allowed of anything there. We had a nice lunch at a pizza place of sorts but of course it was ¨Spanish¨pizza only. I had pizza Iberica - cheese, sauce, bacon, and pepperoni. I ... read more

Our Senora has two other students who each have their own room apart from me & april´s double. Our awesome friends are named Shannon (from the US) and Juan Antonio (Mexico City). Our Senora is about 50 or late 40´s and she is so nice and hilarious. She is a little bit of a neat freak...but then again so is the rest of Madrid! I am nearly over my cold after many sleepless nites of coughing...and coughing...and blowing my nose. April ... read more

So Spain is pretty much outrageous. We have made amazing friends at our hostel...Peter from New Zealand, Clint from London, Chris from Alaska, Agata from Toronto and so forth. Others we met but aren´t really friends with (haha) were from Portugal, France, Argentina, Korea, and Germany. Clint just moved here for the year to teach at a school outside Madrid and he said he could probably get me a tutoring job (under the table $ of course haha) with one of the youngin´s there. I think it would be fun! On another note, we had some serious conversations with both Peter from New Zealand and Clint from London about the rest of the world´s opinion about Americans. It´s gotten me a little upset to say the least to hear this news first hand. Americans are ignorant, ... read more

Well, things are pretty much ready to go. I've bought everything I need for my trip and we booked our hostel stay for the first five nights in downtown Madrid! We'll be staying on Gran Via...which seems to be in a great part of the city! It's close to downtown and should be pretty sweet from what I've read about it. Hope the rest of you are ready for this (i'm really not yet haha)... I promise it will be a wild ride (complete with pictures)!! :) ... read more
