Whither Andrew
Uhhh, Andrew, here it is July and a May post is the last one? From China? Internet slow from there? When did the State Dept. lift the ban on travel there? Why am I always the last one to know? And who is Jen? Do I get to meet her? (I know. Back off, man, too many questions! Sorry.) But I travel too, ya know. Ran the Lake Tahoe Relay recently. A coupla weeks before the big fire there. They report that in China? Can't remember any reports of big fires in China. Probably there are (big fires in China) so probably they didn't (report the Tahoe fire). Oh well. Are you back in the good ol' USA yet? God bless it, and all the countries in the world! Yer year's ovah! :)

Good info on Beijing!
Thanks for all of the detail! I'll be visiting Beijing July 2 to 7. Wondering about the smog and what precautions I can take so I don't get sick while trying to experience everything.

heat rash mania!
Hey... well, sounds like things are going well!! and I'm really happy to hear that you and Jen are an official thing! What oyu described with your arms and legs sounds a whole lot like a heat rash.... I had one once when I was in Rome... on the backs of my legs... also took a couple days to heal... looked horrid and was uncomfortable!! How's life otherwise??

Ahh, the guy who serves the Lord by peeling a pear with a Bowie knife while he carefully watches you. There in Laos did you feel like you were on a NYC subway riding through South Bronx? Sounds like you're having a great time in SE Asia. When are you going to get to Down Under?

man... we are starting to get some heat here (and sunshine!!) but I am not at all looking forward to it... it can stay like it is and I'll be happy.. 95F is not what I call comfortable heat... yeah, I grew up in NM.. but there isn't 70-90% humidity there (not everyday)!! how's the humidity there? I assume it is also rather high... when you heading to Tibet?

a rant a day...
well... sounds like the "far east" is a definite change from the US.... there are already enough differences in Europe (at least mentality wise), but it sounds as if they begin to seem less in comparison to going farther east....

cultural variations
It's very interesting to hear how different the various cultures are... in particular to know how differently an individual (outsider/foreigner) is treated by the locals... sometimes with open arms... and others, like some sort of side-show freak... go figure. Maybe some things are happening in some of the larger cities that wouldn't necessarily in the smaller ones...

Wow, thats a lot of money for a visa.. is it just for travellers or how long is it good for? Believe me, I know about the whole line thing for a visa.... I hope at least that you were greeted by smiles and not an over-stressed and very grumpy reception!
