We set out on the road, still not sure how far we were going to go. Headed through some more downpours for a few hours and finally as we rolled into Byron Bay the sun came out! Was great to see. Watched the waves for a bit and then decided since we were back here in at the end of November for a couple weeks we would keep heading on. The sun decided it would stay out which was great, definitely a lot warmer and more tropical feeling up this way. Made it to Maroochydore, just an hour north of Brisbane around 4pm and checked into a caravan park in Mooloolaba right on the beach again. One day until Dennis and Maggie arrived so we set up and hit the beach. The beach out front was ... read more

First stop, One Mile Beach in Anna Bay, which is in the Port Stephens area which is about 2.5 hours north of Sydney. Port Stephens is home to one of the largest pods of dolphins in Australia, and has really great snorkelling and scuba diving and some great surfing on the eastern side. All of which we didn’t do any. Not because we didn’t want to, but the sun in these pictures was the only sun we saw for 4 days! After that it was so rainy and windy we hardly saw anything! Didn’t we leave the rain at home in Vancouver?? Sydney has got more rain this Novemeber than it has in 24 years. At least we weren't in a tent, and the trailer is working great. All the comforts of home with our $34 ... read more

Well after days of running around and endless trips to Bunnings (the Australian equivalent of Home Depot, althought not quite the same....), Kmart, the Big W, camping stores, insurance places, banks, etc. we are finally ready to hit the road. But before hitting the road, one stop at the pub to meet Chris and Felicity and her dog Dudley. A few beers, some sunshine and an amazing view from a cliff overlooking the ocean - definately one of the nicest pubs we have been to. The Scarborough Pub is in Stanwell Tops, which is about halfway in between Sydney and Wollongong. We called it an early night as we were hitting the road the next morning with no real plan, just have to be in Brisbane next Sunday to pick up my brother Dennis and his ... read more

Back from our first 4 day camping trip away with the rellies. We went down the coast about 3 hours to Moruya Heads which is about 1/2 hour south of Batemans Bay with Brett's Aunty Shelly and Uncle Dennis, and a few others. The trailer towed great, Brett even had no problem backing it up with everything being opposite. We were camped at a great spot right on the river where you could fish off the bank, it was about a 15 minute drive to the beaches, and a quick walk into town. We didn't do a whole lot; ate some really good cheese as there are a few cheese factories nearby, had some aussie barbies, a few cold ones and relaxed. It was great. Well, except for the crazy bird that chirped all night above ... read more

We bought a new truck today up in Sydney and we are all set to go once we pick up the trailer on Wednesday morning. We bought a 2003 Toyota Hilux 4x4. So the plan is to do a bit more running around, hit the beach a few times, and then we are heading down the coast just south of Batemans's Bay to go camping with Brett's aunt and uncle for 3 days before we head up north along the coast. Driving on the other side is getting to be almost like back at home. Just have to do the double/triple check when pulling out of gas stations, etc. Only hit the windshield wipers instead of the turn signals about once our twice a day now. We met up with Chris Gosling at Coogee Beach in ... read more

Well we are here, we made it! Long journey with delayed planes and lost surfboards, but we made it. We have been here almost a week now, and done a tonne of running around. We are staying with Brett's aunt and uncle who have been great; giving us a place to live, a car to drive, and a few cold beers every night. Couldn't ask for more! It's been super nice weather, usually around 23 degrees, although one day was 33 and it was hot! Supposed to get into the 30's this weekend. We made the big caravan (or camping trailer back in Canada) purchase. It's an oldie, but clean and good, so we are pretty excited. It's pretty hard to find them over here, unless you want to pay awhole lot. They are quite alot ... read more
