We got a 12 hr bus from the peaceful beaches to the crazy town of Saigon. The boarder crossing was without incident except for some idiot British lad dressed head to foot in army clad who was carrying a lighter in the shape of a gun and the officials were not too impressed - surprise surprise. We eventually left with a disgruntled idiot but we had no sympathy. We arrived in the city at about 7pm in the teaming rain. As hardened travelers we have become we avoided all the touts and marched to the backpackers area of town. With my [View Full Entry]

Morning all Ryan felt much better after a day of sleeping in the hostel so we bravely headed south to the beaches off the gulf of Thailand. It is meant to be like the Thai islands but 20 years ago. After the usual 4 1/2 hr bus journey we arrive in a shabby bus station and were bomarded as usual by the locals touting for a fare. This time we were inundated with tacky flyers advertising baked beans and dance music. Humm not the quiet retreat we were looking for. Anyhow we decided on our method of transport and we hopped [View Full Entry]

To the capital Asia » Cambodia » South » Phnom Penh
We paid our huge bill from our swanky lodgings and sett of towards the bus station. This was relatively hassle free and we slept most of the way top Phnom Penh. The county side is interesting for a while but it just turns into miles of rice fields. It is very hot here and I keep being nibbled by horrible insects. The city appears quite busy and a nice change from Siem Reap. There is the usual chasing for a tuk tuk fare but as soon as we say no they do leave us alone. Ry is poorly today. I am [View Full Entry]

Day 2 started at 4.45 am in the pitch. We arranged to see the sunrise at Angkor Wat. Well just our luck that it was a misty day and no sun was to be seen. The place was pretty special at that time of day so the early start was not a complete waste. By 6.30am the sun had risen and the hordes of tourist were piling into the main temple. At this point we made a swift exit and headed onto more temples inthe Angkor area. We saw Preah Khan, Preah Neak Pean, Ta Som & Eastern Baray all by [View Full Entry]

Hi all After a luxury night sleep in the Golden banana (gay friendly) B&B - we saw some sights there but I wont write about that, we headed off with our new friend who rescued my camera for a two day tour of the Angkor area. First stop was Angkor Wat its self and what a one to begin with. Words can justify its significance so I shall just leave it at that. We were lucky to get late start as the main attraction quickly become swarmed by Japanese tourist and their tour guides at sunrise and sunset. Thus we enjoye [View Full Entry]

After too much sleep on saturday night we coul;d not get a wink of sleep on sunday. Very unfortunate as we had to leave our hostel aty 5am to get the first train out of bangkok to the border town of Aranyaprathet. It was an exciting start to the day and we were shocked how the city really doesnt sleep. Teams of people were flooding off the sleeper train to start work in the capital. Anyway we found our 3rd class train at a cost of 80p each and we settled in for our 6 hr journey. It was a good [View Full Entry]

Sleepy heads Asia » Thailand » Central Thailand » Bangkok
After finding the relative luxury of an airconditioned room and ear plugs there was no disturbing the weary travellers. A beer and pad thai (Street noodles) for supper settled us in for a 12 hour sleep. So much for getting up early to miss t he heat! Anyway we made the most of the afternoon by visiting the Grand palace complex and saw the famous emerald budda (very little thing on an enormous tower??) many tuk tuk rides and sky trains took us to the MBK center. One of the biggest indoor shopping experiances I HAve ever seen. One foor is [View Full Entry]
