Dear mami, Happy birthday!!!!

A sea of red cloth made my hands look so small as I tried to fold it. To arrange the chaotic undulations into neat lines. Each time I halved, it multiplied. Grasping and clutching but never find the end. It grew beneath my hands and I could not push it away. I spread my arms wide to surround it only to be surrounded. I pulled it only to find it advancing. I tried to be bigger than it and was lost in its infinity. No! I must fold and divide! No! I must bring ends together! No! I must contain! [View Full Entry]

The knock sounded three time. One for the meek, one for the bold and one for the story that's about to unfold…..Everard stood in the doorway surrounded by his luggage for Peru and his travels onward. “Oh my god! Do you think you have enough luggage?!” JJ started helping him drag the bags inside our apartment. “I know. I’ve been shopping and hopefully I can offload this on my father in Italy.” He looked sheepishly at the small mountain in our hallway. He pointed at the groaning backpack against the wall. ‘This ones for you. I’ll arrange fo [View Full Entry]

Moo Moo

We walked laden with backpacks through the old city to the part where we would catch our evening ferry back to Buenos Aires. Deserted and still the streets felt like a movie set. My backpack was small and dense like carrying a sleeping child. JJ towered by my side. “Where’d you get the doll?” I was holding it my hand so as not squash it in my dense pack. “Oh some guy gave it to me, when I saved hm from his hotel room” I passed her the doll and she took it with curiosity. “Pretty heavy for a little [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Montevideo by bus from Colonia and were met by Diana and Muñeca and in theory Julio....but we had to do a little hunting to find him. It is Semana Santa (Easter) so everything is pretty quiet as businesses close down for the holiday, though I imagine that Montevideo never really reaches the kind of bustle of Buenos Aires. And indeed this is the charm of Montevideo. Uruguay only has a population of 3.5 million and Montevideo houses 1.3 million. Time has slowed for Semana Santa and what little movement there is on the street stands out in [View Full Entry]

The party split with Carla and JJ following the coast North to Plaza del Toros along the ramblas, and me heading south on the bike to Playa Ferrando. It was late afternoon already by the time I set off on my rented bicycle. I took General Flores out of the old town and a nice lady gave me directions to a short cut through the shopping centre car park which took me to a dirt road. The dirt road ended onto a tarred road where I asked a couple of boys for directions. "Donde esta la Playa Ferrando?" "todo derecho [View Full Entry]

If you are carrying anything heavy take it Iguasu. Throw it to the garganta de diablo. The bigger the better, but give it all. Smooth water is turned to countless boisterous drops, pummelling and tearing, screaming and shouting. If you have tears la garganta has more... your face, hair and body stream with her tears. The mother of all tears, shuddering sobs, arrested breath and howling cries, unending torrents over and over and over. ..................................................................................................................... I pulled in to Nazaret [View Full Entry]

The first ascent we made ourselves, from the tarmac to the plane. Decades peeled away Until we plateaued somewhere around 1982. Jets of condensation spurted from the overhead airconditioning ducts creating our own internal cummulus. The hostesses were dressed in duck egg blue, blue eye shadow and pumps blinked in agreeance. JJ and Carla sat together and I was next to a Chinese guy in a tracksuit, the unfashionable kind. The plane seemed to bounce throught he air. Plastic packets of desicated food were served with indifference and we made eating gestures to pass the time. A rainy [View Full Entry]

Me and JJ tumble into the back of the taxi our bags thudding softly behind our perfumed presence. I catch the driver's eye in the mirror. "Sanchez Bustamante 764" CAFF in the worst kept secret in Buenos Aires and houses a resident tango orchestra called "Fernandez Fierro". Linda and Steve are waiting out the front and there is a portly older gentlman standing waiting. Linda and Steve hide behind the telegraph pole as we alight the taxi. "Ola Ola! Who's that!?
