CONGRATULATIONS! DEO GRATIAS! - From: A Dream in Retrospect
Greetings Shanna and Vibert, What more can I say that I have not said ever since the adventure (yours and mine) started? CONGRATULATIONS! THANKS BE TO GOD! I will always be grateful to Suzette for introducing me to your travel blogs as they have given me so many countless hours, weeks and months of enjoyment in one form or another. I have never met Vibert, yet I feel that he is as much a friend and treasured acquaintance as you are, Shanna. His face has become so familiar from your photos and his personality and "joie de vivre" come across very forcefully. Hold on tight! I hope my husband and I would have the opportunity to welcome and accommodate you both in Trinidad at some time in the not too distant future. Please keep in touch. Now that your (current) travel saga is at an end and you have returned to the real world, I would greatly appreciate if you could e-mail me your present mailing address. I would like to send you a token of my appreciation for making me a part of your exciting world over the last two years and would also be happy to have an idea of how it feels to settle down after successfully following your dream of seeing the world "up close and personal". I leave you with Love, Light, Peace & much Joy.

Hi, It sounds so exciting and such a great experience. The mixture of nature and technology you’ve experienced should have been really interesting. It is a great dream of mine to dive in such crystal clear waters surrounded by all those beautiful animals and corals or ideally, swim with dolphins. I saw the Atomium in one of the pictures which I’ve personally seen several times. Martina

We have indeed journeyed together! - From: Bangkok in the year 2551
My dear, dear friends! I can hardly believe that my last comment was on April 20, 2008. How time flies! I might not have commented since then but I have continued to follow and document your travels most assiduously. I have printed 241 pages of your interesting, well-written, stimulating and informative text, downloaded 4049 of your fabulous (at times mind-boggling) photos and created 20 iPhoto albums all of which I have set to music for my family's personal enjoyment. My thoughts, feelings, criticisms and good wishes have been well documented, now I await "A Dream in Retrospect" with baited breath. May God's love, light, peace and joy cement your relationship for the future as you both have experienced and shared some of His most bountiful gifts over the past months.

Close of Chapter 1 - From: Bangkok in the year 2551
The 15-month journey was a wonderful one for those of us who were reading your many triumphs, trials and tribulations. While there was no pomp and circumstance to the close of this journey, I only hope that it is the mere close to Chapter 1 of what will be a wonderful journey through life. I hope that in travelling the world, the two of you have searched each other and found even more reasons to bond closer. My best wishes to both of you as you return to some semblance of normality amidst the world of an economic depression. But alas, for the utopia that we know can exist, we need only return the stories of "two4deroad".

Hi Shanna & Vibert. I discovered this blog a little late. I guess your journey is already finished; the last entry seems to be a while ago? Anyhow it's a great blog, well written plus your choice of countries is surprising too. It must have been a lot of work to maintain this blog. You guys have been in several countries where I've been travelling and backpacking too: Aruba, New York, Suriname, The Netherlands, Greece, South India, Thailand. Your blog and pics bring back happy memories. Within 3 months we will visit Suriname for the 5th time and perhaps we will visit French Guyana or Guyana as well, don’t know yet. I’ve put a link to your blog on the ‘Suriname Dashboard’ on Google Pages if you don’t mind. Greetings from Bakrakondre, Damsko.

Careless Humans - From: Jiuzhaigou: A fairy-tale in real life
"But the bus wouldn't stop because the overhanging wall of stone was too dangerous, they said. Determined not to miss one of the reserve's best views, we scrambled up the mountainside, grabbing vines for support, digging our toes into the decaying leaves and mud and dodging loose boulders........" "......We thought that Jiuzhaigou seemed like how the world used to be before the smoke stacks and the chainsaws, the plastics bags and the careless humans." Darn those careless humans.

Nice to read your account on India, especially Delhi. I am a Delhite myself and understand what kind of problems a foreigner can face here. Also, coming from them it gives a very different perspective to the place which we at home take for granted. Yes, the discrimination happened on the basis of color because they didn't want to face any problems. The blacks of Africa (most of the time) are involved in drug trafficking and then the hotel owners are questioned for it. I wish I was with you people to guide you throughout India and much more. I have started liking this site. I myself blog about my experiences here. Would like to be a part of this place.

FANTABULOUS! - From: Jaisalmer: My Camel for your iPod
Hi there S & V! My previous comment was an instant "knee-jerk" reaction. Now that I have had time to savour the narrative, to share your desert experience, to recall my own 1999 camel-ride in Egypt (very brief but totally awesome) and set your marvellous photos to slide-show music (sorry! I couldn't find "Buffalo Soldier" in Hindi in my music library :-)), the initial reaction has definitely been confirmed. Now on the lighter side ....... I must confess that as a true "Mac-aholic" I CRINGED at sight of your word "Ipod". No, no, no, my dears! NEVER "Ipod"! ALWAYS "iPod"! Consider ... iMac & iLife & iMovie & iDVD & iTunes & iPhoto & iPhone & iBook and iBall ... oops! sorry!... I guess that last one should be "eyeball" :-)) but you get the picture! Well, like the "Mac-maniac" that I am, I sometimes tend to go over-board about things Mac so I hope you will forgive my criticism because, as I love to say, "my Mac is the Apple of my i" :-)) Duh!! Just jesting! I hope you subscribe to the popular theory that "A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men" :D So "wise-guys" keep on keeping-on with Love, Light, Peace and much Joy.

I HAVE SIMILAR ISSUE - From: Singapore: 4œ
Hi there, I just want to share my story which is similar to yourself. A week ago I was supposed to do a stopover overnight holiday in Singapore as the airlines transit there. Well let's start with my outbound trip. This is my long awaited holiday. The first visit is Singapore. I arrived 6am and immigration officer stamp my passport with pass to enter singapore. There i spent one day (12 hours) shopping and eating around Orchard then go back to airport and continue my journey (all smooth and no issue). Inbound travel back to where I live three weeks later. I have two boarding passes printed by the airline from the departed country and have hotel booked in Orchard area for 1 night only as my connecting flight scheduled the next evening (i want to stay over as well). Arrived Changi at 12pm. All my luggage already checked to my destination country (not collectable in Sing). At immigration checkpoint the officer referred me to his supervisor. Spoke with the supervisor who ask me that i can not enter singapore because my passport expire in 1 month time (i realise this and plan to extend soon as i get back). I argue that few weeks back the immigration allow me to go out. Talking with this guy is like talking with the brick wall. He would not listen to my argument. I showed him all my hotel reservation as well as my connecting boarding pass. He does not seem care and said i have to be deported back to the country where i just came. Ok waited until 1pm. The airline guy come to me asking if it's ok to change my ticket back to country where i just visited and i said no and i insisted that the airline fly me back to where i live. waited another 30 minutes. this time the airport police come to me and ask me to follow him to wait at his office. Well i thought that the airline guy is going to arrange something for me and rather than me waiting at check point they want me to wait at their office. I said OK then i followed the airport police officer. Then i told him that i want to make a phone call to some friend that already awaited for me in Singapore and also to let my family knows that i already arrived in Singapore. THe officer said no and told me that i'm not allowed to make a phone call!! I was surprised and i insisted again. He then said that he need to get permission from the immigration officer. I'm just getting uncomfortable and told him ok to find out from the immigration guy. The officer got the permission and only allowed to make two phone call which i have to pay for it (not from their office). I called my friend in Singapore informed them that i could not enter singapore and also told my family overseas that i may get deported back and ask them to pick me up at the airport. Then I got into this so called office. Apparently it's their detention centre!!! they searched me and stored all my stuff in the locker before getting in. i couldnt bring anything. Then inside it was like a prison. there were no window. the toilet is filthy. there were bedrooms with few bunkbeads but really smelly and all the beds have mould. Now i feel like a nobody and no one would listen to me. I waited patiently for 3 hours as the police officer told me before that they will give me an update in two hours time. Nothing happen. I asked the officer overthere which all not helpful and unfriendly which said that no one has called regarding my case. OK. it's 5 pm now. it's been 5 hours i'm in this detention room that full of people from africa, india, and china (i don't know why they are here but i learnt some already stayed for days!!!). i approached the officer again and asking an update. She probably get irritated and told me to just wait like the rest!. I'm getting nervous and afraid as no-one knows that im here and i couldnot make any communication to outside world. Then there's another officer come from their office (probably after seeing my argument with the other officer) and told me i will be send to the country where i live tonite at 9 pm. OK thanks God i feel relieved. and i sat again waiting. 8.45pm the officer called my name and told me to follow her. She escorted me to the airplane! i felt like a criminal! I dont even have my passport back. At the flight i vomited few times as i felt really sick to what has happened to me. Arrived at 6am. even the stewardess treated me like im a criminal. dont they have to be friendly? they told me not to leave my seat until everyone is got out the plane. ok i followed them. then once everyone got out the asked me to follow them to meet the ground staff. outside the plane the ground staff then handed me my passport and told me that im now free to go. ????? Am I a criminal???? What did I do so badly that i get this treatment???? Now that i'm safe here i really don't want to ever go visit Singapore again!!!! First time in my life i was in prison for nearly 9 hours!!!!!!!

Sao Tome, even if in India - From: Goa: A little less and a whole lot more
I have followed this dream now materialized a great deal, from its inception. Your great and inspirational weekly updates for the miles covered and imaginaries discovered take the rest of us along in this scenic world trip from the very comfort of our homes or offices. I recall having suggested to you the possibility to include my hometown - Săo Tomé in your itinerary and profit from it to visit the entire island state - Săo Tomé and Prínipe. After deep and thoughtful considerations multiple constraints, mainly due to the insularity and poor connections with the rest of the world forced you to postpone the visit. But, tricky and adventurous as you are, you managed to find Săo Tomé, but of course in Goa. Obviously, the time and the space have to collapse, otherwise that wouldn’t be possible. Keep up and GOOD LUCK!!!

Shanna and Vibe, remember all the wonderful people you guys met elsewhere! Build on your happy memories of nice, loving people. We are glad to hear that you "prayed". That is the only thing that keeps us safe in a world full of unfair, frustrated and deceitful people. We do hope that you will keep enjoying the rest of your adventures as you were before. Don't let such an event get you down! Keep up your positive spirits and be safe on the rest of your journey. Also remember to keep praying! Shanna & Vibe, What a drama......Sounds like entering St. Vincent.... People don't have to have a reason to treat you like that...Some times you are in the wrong place at the wrong time...I guess Officer G had just lost his job to black man...or had never travelled before.... Anyway, we are happy to hear that you are ok...keeping on moving...keep on writing...............down let this " thing" stop your adventure... God bless Jim & Mirella

Too Bad - From: Singapore: 4œ
Sorry you had to endure that. Been through the twilight zone of Immigration myself. The helplessness and fear over the control one person has is daunting. You feel the weight and force of that government behind the creepy officer. BUT you guys keep your heads up and keep praying you have a bigger and more powerful army with/behind you, and you have each other. i was moved by your commitment to each other. go well.

Is this for real ? - From: Singapore: 4œ
I have never heard about such treatment at Singapore immigration before. Is this for real ? or is it some sort of a joke or story you made up ? If it's real, you can and you should write to the press in Singapore - The Straits Times. The authority WILL investigate and gives you JUSTICE. Unless you have some sort of criminal records or has been suspected of terrorism or other serious crimes, you won't be treated like the way you said you did. Did you miss out anything significant in your story? What's country X ? Myanmar?

I've seldomly heard good things about Singapore - From: Singapore: 4œ
My parents lived there for work twice in the last 10 years for little under a year each time and both dislike the social control the Singaporian Gov't holds over it's citizens. Sounds rough. I meant to ask you your experiences in Asia for things like this. Sarah and I are back in NYC freezing our tail feathers off. I still wish I was you. Traveling the world making all sorts of experiences. I wish we coulda spent some more time together as to hear all your wonderful stories. Guess I'll just have ta read about it..

"Shanna feels helpless. She PRAYS." "Inside, Vibert PRAYS silently". Yes, my friends, the formula never fails - you are positively on the right track and you are being guided by Love, Light & Peace. Despite your ordeal (or maybe because of it), you have maintained your flair for reporting and have added a new and interesting dimension to the narrative - the film script - (Sutherland eat your heart out!) :-)) We love it and look forward to your next "port-of-call".

terrible!! - From: Singapore: 4œ
Hi Shaan/Vibert, What an awful experience! Hope you guys recovered well from this nightmare. And Singapore is so famous for it's nice attitude towards foreigners! If this had happened in some African country (no prejudice here, but from stories I have heard from the horse's mouth) I could understand, because then you should have known that the immigration officer wanted money. It's that simple! But Singapore!! F... them!! Sorry, but I am still very upset that Vibert was treated in such a manner, without any reason, and that you Shanna had to go through this without him being around. The bastards! Boycot Singapore:-) :-) Lots of love! Annelies

Lasting Treasures - From: Outro: Is China 'China' in Chinese?
My dear friends, That was a grand finale and a masterful précis of your China experience. Wherever your travels take you, no matter how spectacular the scenery, how glorious the sunrises, sunsets and moonlights, how delectable the food or fabulous the entertainment, these tangibles must, of necessity, be left behind. I agree that the greatest "treasures" that China or any other place has to offer are its people and the genuine friendships that can remain with you, sometimes, for the rest of your life. Your latest album says it all. Keep on keeping on with Love, Light & Peace.

Some Other Statistics - From: Beijing: Of Walls, Palaces and Forbidden Cities
Hi Guys! Had a few moments to spare yesterday so I thought I would check your stats on the travelblog.org/Bloggers/two4deroad site. The site shows Photos: 2,970 as compared to my albums' total of 2,787 downloads. Well here's what I discovered .... included among the 2,970 count are 180 duplicates RECOVERED after the travelblog server crash last year (1) Overland to Srangang Tongo - 71; (2) The Melting Pot - 20; (3) Brownsberg's Tops & flops - 56; (4) Suriname YWCA - 33. The other 3 items were random duplicates on some of your other blogs. It was really fun trying to sort out the discrepancy and I THINK I got it right so I figured I might just as well share my findings with you in case you or anyone else wondered :-)) Keep on travelling with Love, Light & Peace.

Keep Them Coming - From: Beijing: Of Walls, Palaces and Forbidden Cities
My dear friends, while you "happy wanderers" are scaling to great heights (Great Walls) and doing Flying Fox imitations, zip-lining above swift-flowing rivers, some of us "mere mortals" still have to earn a living, however mundane :-)) But please keep the adventures rolling, the narrative flowing and the photos & videos coming. I can barely find time now to print the text (150 pages), down-load the fantastic photos (2, 775) and create my albums and slide-shows but I'm persevering and looking forward to really savouring it all at leisure after my April 30th TAX deadline assignments. My comments may be few for the time being but my prayers are always with you and I'll be following you with Love, Light & Peace.

Just as Von Goethe suggested many moons ago, I admonish you guys to continue to "Plunge boldly into the thick of life, and seize it where you will, for it is always interesting." I am sure that through all the changing scenery and explorations you have realised and will agree that the universe is full of magical things patiently waiting for our wits to grow sharper. As you continue on your journey, remember the words of Elizabeth Kubler-Ross who said, "It is only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up that we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it were the only one we had." Do conitnue to live life to the fullest because it is only in adventure that people succeed in knowing themselves and in finding themselves.

Macau.....very impressed - From: Macau: Fireworks, Egg Tarts, Glitz and Glamour
Annelies

I watched the video of the bus stuck on the tree. My favorite part was that while the bus was trying to drive up the ramp, Shanna is still walking around with a machete in her hand! What a trooper! Shanna, you looked a bit attached to the thing. Vibert you might have to buy Shanna a machete for Christmas when you all get back. :P

I love the dramatic contrast of your "daytime/night-time" shots of that Hong Kong Island skyscraper taken from the same spot at the same angle. On the whole, the quality of your photos- and especially the night shots - seems to have improved immensely since you got your new camera from SXM. With Shanna's underwater camera now repaired we are looking forward to your next foray into the deep, wherever in the world that might be :-) Take care and God bless with love, light & peace.

Traveller Update - From: Quintessential London
Hi there! Your hardcore backpacking "amigo", Lasse, actually made his appearance in the "MOTORBIKE HEAVEN" blog - the prelude to "On The Trail of Juan Pablo Duarte". I think it quite an amazing coincidence your meeting up with him in London after so many months and so many miles of adventure. I do hope he finds the "direction in his life" which he seeks on his travels and I wish him - as I do you both - love, light & peace always and all ways.

Greetings folks! Marvellous!! - From: Finding Netherlands
Shan & Vibes, at the risk of sounding boring and repetitive ..... so far your World Tour is simply FANTABULOUS!! TEXT: 104 pages of interesting, informative, highly expressive narrative, chock full of geographic and historic data. PHOTOS: 2,008 of the very best!! Using black & white for the "Back in Times" shots was a masterful touch. I was able to utilize iPhoto's "antique effect" to further dramatize the photos with a light sepia tone. "Free As A Bird" gets 115% (VAT inclusive) as we Trinis say :-)) TOUR: Well-paced, sensible style. From the touristy, family-oriented Wales/A'dam, through the frenetic, adrenalin-filled dash accross Crete, to Finding the Netherlands at a quiet, leisurely pace. GREAT!! Consequently, my slide-shows went from Terry Oldfield's haunting "All The Rivers Gold" through the up-beat "Soulful Sounds of Greece" to Joshua Bell's classical "Romance of The Violin". Marvellous! I'm ecstatic! However, friends, remember "It is all God's work" so forge ahead with Love, Light & Peace.

Sapientia et Doctrina Stabilitas - From: Guyana: Going Out With A Bang!
Your decision to live life to uttermost is one that many people never get a chance to do. Your Guyana experience will undoubtedly prepare you for everyting else. After all, you have both acknowledged that only change is constant. However, while this is true, I wish to also give you some advice as you take Wales by storm, "Sapientia et Doctrina Stabilitas" - Wisdom and Knowledge shall be the stability of thy times. So let your travels build your wisdom and let your acquired knowledge bring stability when all else seems unstable. As always, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Shan & Vibes, I am at present in Sint Maarten on a 2-week vacation and I sure missed your Blogs. I thought at first that my WiFi connection at the Hotel had gone haywire when I saw the LOST BLOGS. Then I read that the servers on Travelblog.com had crashed and I was really concerned but relieved that I had all the hard-copies and 1,251 photos. Congrats, though, for working so hard to get your blogs back up (whatever the order). At present you are only missing the last four, by my estimation and that's fantastic. I'm glad that you are both safe and well and I look forward to printing your up-coming blogs and creating further albums when i return home on August 11th. May God go with you always. You could have told me that the last time (that I can add my comment here) we spoke thru skype and I should have told you also about paramaribo ghost town in the afternoon. Now that you do describe the scenario in the afternoon it is a funny setting but for the surinam people it is normal...but now that I am watching this as an outsider: why are (was I also) they doing that"; running away simultaneously in the afternoon?????? Well, these pictures do bring back old memories. Did yoou ever find the "tigriball" soup? What!!!!! A bike ride at 2 o'clock in the afternoon in surinam...you wanna "bun up"

How old are you now? - From: Gri Gri Land
Guess its not too late to wish you a happy birthday (belated). You're getting bro. Next its the mid-life crisis then before you know it, wham, its generativity versus despair. Ask Pops! Progressing smoothly I see including that rather inspiring piece of modern architecture. Your muchachos/amigos/ gringos must be congratulated on their practicality and ingenuity. Since human beings are accident prone, it must be comforting to have the "dump" so close to your bed. I noticed that birthdays do also bring improved personal appearances. I am keeping track of your progress. Life is sweet

Heights Reached By Great Men & Women - From: On the trail of Juan Pablo Duarte
Chief, I have been following with much enthusiasm and with much envy your adventure and expedition. I commend you for the bravery, chivalry (running behind the donkey while Shanna rode), adventurous side, as well as your stick-to-it-iveness in pursuing this goal. Your ascent and arrival at Pico Duarte is a testament to the old addage, the heights attained by great men (and women) were not attained by sudden flight, but they while thier companions slept - kept toiling upwards through the night. Both of you epitomise the latin phrase - "Tentanda Via" (i.e. the way must be tried). As you track on, I send God's blessings on you both and may the Holy Spirit protect you in your adventures. If you need an agent to organise the book deal - let me know...I will do it for free.
