I got into delhi at 4 am - they made you fill out a form listing any country you had recently been to that has reported cases of swine flu - which I believe is all countries. Anyways, no difficulties getting through customs. No problems with the flight. But arriving at 4 am presented a small difficulty - being that I didn't want to go wandering around a strange city at 4 am. So I waited in the lobby for 2 hours and then finally got a pre-paid cab (they have little booths set up in the airport) to take me to Connaught Place - a sort of shopping district where Anil had booked a hotel. The a/c cab cost a little more than 400 rupees (its about 47 rupees/dollar - you can use 50 to ... read more

I left on the 24th, trying to catch glimpses of the US-Spain confederations cup soccer game - I became a soccer fan in Burkina - not because the sport is inherently beautiful or divine or any other nonsense like that but simply because there was no other game in town - if I was going to talk about sports with my Burkina friends (and I was going to talk about sports - interminably or so Tyeliah would have you believe) I was going to be talking about soccer - so I had been following the US team's recent exploits and managed to see them score a goal from afar while waiting to go through security and see the last minutes of the game at an airport bar. Hurrah. Anyways, I said goodbye to Tyeliah and left ... read more

Upon deciding to go Tyeliah began pushing me to actually plan the trip - she's big on planning that one - so that I wouldn't end up wandering around the sub continent and ending up in some pakistani terrorist hostage situation. So I ended up going out and buying the Lonely Planet India guide. India it seems is a rather large place. France or Germany are kind of big, but India's like Europe with each of its states having their own history (and usually their own languages) and their own list of great sites that one cannot miss. I already had a basic schedule given that Anil and Jody would be attending a wedding. Unfortunately, I would not be able to go to this event as Anil's invitation said nothing about a Plus One Plus One. ... read more

Running Diary of India Trip

So I wanted to inform my family and friends of my recent trip to India in excruciating detail but I didn't want to have the same conversation over and over again and inevitably miss the really interesting things like the Indian Head nod or something like that. So here's the blog in retrospect. I thought of actually keeping one up during the trip, but then I would have had to blog during ridiculous temperatures and make a point of getting to the computer and anyways, my memory is good enough to handle post trip blogging so why stress myself during the trip. Furthermore, blogging after the fact prevented any irate posts written up after a night of not sleeping due to the lack of air conditioning. So without further ado, the blog of my trip. Questions ... read more
