Welcome to the wonderful world of Anime!! This week, my Japanese popular culture class went to the city of mitaka to visit the ghibli studio museum for some fieldwork. I couldnt tell you how much it was to enter the museum, but I can tell you that it was one of the most interesting places that ive been to in Japan so far. The scenery on the walk to the museum was beautiful, so I took a lot of photos for you guys to see the downtown area and all of the parks that we passed on the way. At the museum, the founder of ghibli studio and creator of some of the most famous animated films, Hayao Miyazaki who created spirited away, had an extensive collection of art on display. One of the most interesting ... read more

In honor of it being my birthday, and my friend spencer's birthday in october, we decided to go to Tokyo Disneyland! Unfortunately, my camera died, and I didnt get to take as many pictures as i would have like to but i think that i got a good amount for tokyo disney to have its own entry. Please excuse my typing because im using a japanese keyboard and i dont feel like trying to find every apostrophe key on here...lol. What makes tokyo disney really unique is that it is also combined with the only Disney Sea park in the world. All of the other Disney resorts have separate themes to them, but tokyo is ... read more

Wow, I have a lot of entrys back dated on here so far because I have been way too busy to update the blog. Anyway, So I went to Shinjuku this week with some friends for a night on the town. Shinjuku is known for it's exciting night life, big lights, and numerous other things. So, I decided to check it out and see what all of the fuss was about. This week was the week of the TGS , so i figured instead of going to a traditional bar with some friends, why not go to a bar that should be geared towards video games? We got to some searching on the internet and found a bar entirely dedicted to mario games! The name of the bar is Muteki Mario, meaning invincible mario. How awesome ... read more

So, It has been awhile since i have written, my apologies. I unfortunately was having some computer issues and had to reformat my hard drive... =/ anyway... I started my first full week of classes last week! I am really enjoying the Japanese classroom, even more so than the American alternative. The pace is fast but not too fast that anybody gets left behind. I feel like it's just the right level of comfort that I need. Also, the senseis that I have are very friendly and helpful. So I went to a few different places over the last couple of days. I went back to Harajuku (of course), Asakusa, and Tokyo just recently. Harajuku: It was fashion night in Harajuku and I had a blast! I went with some friends of mine, and we shopped ... read more

Wow, so I finally made it to Japan. I have been here for about a week so I will try to do one entry a week while I'm away. I always wanted to come to japan just so that I could experience the culture and learn the language. After a long flight, all of the students of the program I'm involved in (IES) were taken from the Tokyo, Narita airport to Kaihimmakuhari to stay in the Hotel Springs for a week to do our orientation week. The staff showed us around the city and thankfully showed us how to withdraw money from the Japanese ATMs. They had been so helpful up to this point of the journey so I'm very thankful for what they have done. The first night I was in Japan, I went with ... read more
