Sorry it's been a while since my last Machu Picchu blog but there are a few reasons this is the case. One Lima doesn't have a whole lot going for it, other than if you want to go out every night of the week you can, we tried! However on our last evening there a few of us went along to one of their parks which is full of water fountains and they put on a light show. It is only on a few days a week but well worth the £1 entry. We were amazed at how extravagant this was, especially as it was in South America! James and i then had to leave as we were flying from Lima to Iguazu that night. So we left Will who we had been traveling with for ... read more

Well after all the dangers of Bolivia's “death road” and the crocodiles in the Amazon, you can be excused for thinking I might be searching for a more relaxing, safer environment. This however was not the case, it turns out where we thought we might be safe we weren't! After the Amazon Will, James and I descended upon “lake Titicaca” which is one of the worlds highest. Here we were able to relax and just enjoy chilling in the sun. First we stayed in Copacabana then got a boat to “Isla del Sol” which is a stunning little island in the lake. This was the last we saw of Bolivia as we then jumped on the ferry, then a bus to cross the boarder and into Peru. Our first stop in Peru was to be Cusco, ... read more

Well guys having survived the "worlds most dangerous road", where they obviously place more importance on "walkie talkies" than sign posts and ambulances (as they are still on the pending list), it was time for more adventure this time in the Amazon basin. Shortly into our 45min flight (alternative option was a 21 hr bus trip!) all 18 passengers were feeling this could be the most dangerous part of the next 5 days. A less than smooth landing on a less than convincing mud runway then followed, and we had landed in Rurrenabaque, the gateway to the Amazon. This trip was destined to be a more than difficult few days than it needed to be. Upon arrival into the tin pot airport, tour companies are collecting their clients, loading them into 4x4´s then onto the jungle. ... read more

It was early on Wednesday morning, we were all up early ready to jump into our Jeep´s and leave for our four day through Bolivia´s mountains, desert and across the salt flats. In my 4x4 was Amy, Rebecca and James, we also had our driver and cook which as we found out later that day love a bit of 90´s music especially MJ! On the 1st day of the tour we mainly saw cactus, mines and mountains. Some of the mines were for gold others for zinc, however the standard of living for these minors was terrible, not only that but they believed that the devil brings them the gold and minerals therefore they used to make human sacrifices to him. We stopped for lunch with our other 4x4 by a bunch of grazing Lama´s, the ... read more

So After leaving the south well behind we had arrived in Mendoza, this is the wine capital of South America, so when we arrived and saw we could go on a tour later that day we jumped at it and started to look forward to having a few wines and a good night out. This didn't quite go to plan as we were picked up late then when we did it was full of 60-70 year old's, not exactly what we had expected! Anyway we made the most of it by drinking there wine as they were doing the proper thing of just tasting, so we finished off their glasses. Together with this we past the time by flirting with or tour girls. James got me with a classic though by putting a sticker on my ... read more

Well after leaving Chile and the wilderness of Torres Del Paine it was time to head back to Argentina and to El Calafate. We are working our way north through the ice fields of Patagonia which is shared by both countries. El Calafate is the access point to the incredible Perito Moreno glacier. With a 60m ice wall with huge jagged edges and the rest of the glacier going back for as far as the eye can see, it makes for a very impressive sight. Then you hear a huge deep rumble which is some of that wall breaking up and falling into the lake. This glacier is one of only a few that is still advancing (approx 2m a day) however it is about neutral as it looses about 2m from the front wall a ... read more

If I was to ask you; where can you buy a steak the size of your plate for $6? Or where is the capital of south American football? Or where do they start to go out for a night out at 2am? The answer Buenos Aires, Argentina! So this is the 1st leg of my South American adventure. After arriving from a long and uncomfortable flight on the worlds cheapest airline I met James in our hostel, cleaned up and went out. We soon found out that the first weekend we were there it was 'El Classico', it's only the biggest game in south American football with Boca Juniors playing Riverplate. These are Buenos Aires (BA) two biggest teams and have as fierce rivalry as any other, so we bought our tickets and off we went. ... read more

I know what you’re all thinking, "Oh no Tom and his blogs are back"! And yes they are!! This time you can follow me on my adventures and antics through South America. Starting in Argentina I plan to head south and then work my way up through Chile, Bolivia, and Peru and hopefully get to Colombia!! Well the time has come and as much as I’m going to miss Melbourne I’m also really excited about what I’ve got planned for the next few months. Melbourne has been absolutely amazing, I could have never thought this time last year when I was breaking the news to mum and dad that I was moving out here, that it was going to be this much fun and I was going to meet so many awesome people. For those of ... read more

Hey Guys and Girls, Parents and Grand parents!! This is my first blog since moving out here to Melbourne a few weeks ago. The news from down here is that things are starting to settle down, I've joined a local rugby team and been absolutely loving it, especially scoring a try on my debut! My rugby pitch is right next to the pit lane for the F1 grand prix circuit and our changing rooms are the garages for the cars!! I've put in a picture of my club house overlooking Albert park lake and the city as the back drop! Unfortunately this weekend I dislocated my shoulder in the last 5 minutes of the game by trying to tackle a kiwi or Islander 3 times my size and he landed on me!! Stupidly I thought it ... read more

Well everyone this is my last blog, thank you very much for joining me on my journey for the last 6 months, it has been brilliant receiving all your comments and feedback. Since leaving the Philippines and encountering a minor problem at Manila airport (them telling me I’m not booked on the flight and my ticket is invalid!), I spent a couple of days in Singapore sorting out what I was going to do for the next 10 days. I eventually decided on heading north on a train to Kula Lumpar. My plan was pretty flexible so on the advice of two Canadian backpackers I met on the train, I ended up staying in what turns out to be one of my favourite hostels. It was small but in a great location and everyone there was ... read more
