Hello to you all, firstly apologies for being so slack on the blog front, we have been incredibly busy as you will see....! The last blog saw us arriving in northern Ecuador, greeted by quite possibly the worst weather we had seen since leaving the UK and to be honest, it didnīt lay up for quite some time! After arriving, we headed south to Quito which was literally monsoonal, after checking out the city as much as possible without looking like drowned rats, and camping out in our hotel room for a day we decided that there must have been more [View Full Entry]

So we entered South America via the war torn, crime ridden, drug capital of the world where if the paramilitaries, drug cartels or left wing guerrillas donīt kill you then the fer-de-lance snakes surely will. Or so people would think. The reality is that we found Colombia to be one of the friendliest, most welcoming countries we have been to, where people will cross the street to help you catch a taxi, tell you exactly how much to pay and feel extremely happy that you want to visit their country. We started our colombia trip with Cartagena, the beautiful colonial city [View Full Entry]

Firstly, thanks to everyone who has left kind messages on the blog. We donīt check the actual blog page unless we are making entries so there is a bit of a delay in us getting them but they are all greatly received. We MISS you guys!! *sob* Anyhow, since our last entry we have been on a bit of a trans central american mission so that we can get to Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia for the last few weeks of our trip. Flights in the americas are ludicrously expensive and besides, flying isnīt nearly as much fun! So the mission started [View Full Entry]

So, here we are in San Pedro Sula in Honduras, a pretty nondescript, ugly, rather violent town in northern honduras. Apart from that itīs really nice. Our last entry was from Antigua where, before our departure we studied more spanish and climbed another volcano. This one had lava that you could fall into. We toasted marshmallows. Well, I say toast, we made marshmallows combust into a ball of flames as soon as they got within 3 feet of the lava. It was quite hot and toasting marshmallows on it isnīt as easy as it sounds. Then it was off to Semuk [View Full Entry]

Firstly, HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!! we hope you all had a great one - we spent the christmas period at a hippy eco-lodge type thing in the mountains above Antigua - hence the absence of phone calls on the day. So, here we are in Antigua, Guatemala for a month trying to learn a bit of spanish but, especially on my part, failing quite miserably. I think i'm gonna have to leave the spanish to Jenny who is already speaking it like a native. A slow native but a native none the less. We have been in our apartment for about [View Full Entry]

After visiting the ruins at Palenque we headed back down to San Cristobal for a night and headed out of mexico, destination Guatemala. We caught the bus from San Cristobal to Ciudad Cuauhtemoc, and across the border into Guatemala. This was a surprisingly informal affair that took place in the middle of a busy market - it would have been incredibly easy to just stroll on through. After having our passports stamped by the incredibly laid back and friendly border officials we had a 1.5 hour wait for our bus before crossing some incredible mountain and volcano scenery to our current [View Full Entry]

After taking it easy in Puerto Escondido for a few days we headed north to San Cristobal de las Casas which is a beautiful mexican mountain town surrounded by some incredible indigenous mayan villages. From San Cristobal we hired a car with the intention of heading north to the Palenque ruins for a night, returning on the next day. As we attempted to find one of the villages, we got completely lost in the hills and subjected our poor little volkswagen derby to some terrain that it was never intended to cross. Weīre talking some serious offroading - up and down [View Full Entry]

Taxco North America » Mexico » Guerrero » Taxco
From Mexico City we headed south to Taxco. It was really nice to get out of the city. We left the cloud of smog that engulfs the whole valley and the sun came out. Itīs strange - the weather forecast for Mexico City says sunny but you canīt actually see the sun. Taxco was nice. But expensive. So we only spent one night. One massive bonus with taxco was the sheer number of aircooled vwīs clogging the streets. Weīve got some great beetle and camper traffic jam photos! It felt like Run to The Sun but without the water fights. [View Full Entry]

After Taxco we headed down to Acapulco for some Loco beach action and dancing chicas. Not. It was a hell-hole so we crashed for the night in a cheap part of town and headed straight out east to Puerto Escondido. Puerto Escondido is a nice little beach town that is famous for itīs surf beach. We stayed at a cool little hostel and met some great people - one of which managed to recover our photos from our empty memory card. There is a lovely little beach outside of the main surf beach which was perfect for kicking back for a [View Full Entry]

After the Big Apple we flew down to Mexico City (on the 19th november). Again, apologies for the late updates but as I hurriedly mentioned in the previous post we have been having a bit of a mare with our photos and trouble getting the internet to work. Mexico city is a huge, dirty city with a bit of a traffic problem. We were told that 18 million people live there and that 30% of the population are under 18. Randy buggers, the mexicans. Anyway, we quickly checked the place out (there is a really cool cathedral and some mad old [View Full Entry]
