| 13th September 2009 tony | Magic! - From: Petra for one day and one night only Travelling to Jordan in a week's time with rels and I got this link from one of them. Tasked myself now to match the quality of photos you took.. magnificent. |
| 13th September 2009 dragonlady | Amsterdam Bike Stand - From: The Nederlands Hi Drew My husband & I were in Amsterdam during our European holiday last year and took a photo almost identical to yours. I was amazed at how many bikes were parked there! I had never seen so many in one place in my life - each level had hundreds. Shows they are a lot more "green" than we Aussies. We also saw bikes for public hire (I think it was in Italy but I'm not sure). They were chained to posts at specific places in the town and you paid some money to "hire" it and use it. Then return it to either the same or a different "bike hire" location. It was not staffed and worked on an honour system. great idea - I thought. I wonder if it would catch on in Melbourne? |
| 9th September 2009 mharleyuk | Drinking Norwegian Style - From: They wanted the backpacking experience and they got it! Aye; your piece brings back memories Dribbleman. I've done Norway a few times but only on business expenses. And I'd hate to do it for long out of my own pocket. I, too, have wandered around towns trying to find people, then spent 2 hours in an empty bar wondering where everybody is, then when we're no longer in the mood and it's jackets on to leave - they all turn up. Seems they drink at home since it's cheaper, then hit the town 11pm which is when things hot up. |

| 23rd August 2009 James | Souless - From: The Last of the Negative Stories "in a way its a pre-school style of backpacking.....It lives a fake existence in the backpacking itinerary" - well put. I reckon over the next 20 years tourism is going to screw Thailand hard. |
| 19th August 2009 Rob_n_Lorenza | - From: BB Starts the Holiday definitely a good excuse to go to Budapest! |
| 17th August 2009 Jules | - From: Not that I'm bragging but I Just swam with whale sharks I really enjoyed reading your blog. Dang, I'm Filipino and I haven't even been to those places you've been to, save perhaps for Legaspi city which I last visited when I was a kid. Anyways, for your info, the International airport in Manila is the best way to get to the Philippines. Especially the NAIA 3 which is the newest one that only opened recently. But as of now, only Cebu Pacific operates out of that airport. The other international airlines that serve Manila are still pretty much comfortable using the NAIA 2 airport which is nearby but they also have plans to eventually transfer to NAIA 3 once all the kinks have been ironed out. The Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) that operates out of Clark Field is only for low cost airlines coming in from the Asia/Oceania region. But I understand the preference others have in arriving at Cebu since I heard that there is less haggling involved with touts and taxi drivers and the overall more chaotic environment that Manila is quite known for. Something, which is also quite common in other large S. East Asian cities. |

| 17th July 2009 thedribbleman | Angkor Wat - From: Petra for one day and one night only It really depends on how much of the tourist trail you do. I've seen too much of that stuff so it gets all same same. If I had my time again there I would have done one long day starting sunrise to sunset get a tuk-tuk and see sunset at Pre Rup. This is the link to my story. If you love to get a story than take a bike around - Cambodia have the worst bikes in the world! http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Cambodia/North/Siem-Reap/blog-358398.html |

| 9th July 2009 Boratbai :-) | Thanks for your honesty, man - From: Central Asia you got me I'm from Kazakhstan and I can sign under every word you wrote here... I hate the same things and many many more in my home country. I love my Kazie despite all that anyway... I'm sorry you've had this kind of experience but you know you just can't help it... An imperial colony then a soviet province then a full-blown cleptocratic dictatorsip... for hundreds of years... Talk about craziest brainwashing swinging from one extreme to another... The natives were close to complete extermination more than a few times by massive killings and artificial hunger... You just can't fully grasp it unless you live it (riding the metro for 2 months through doesn't count). So what do you wish? :-) I'd give Kazie and other CA countries a huge deal of credit for being what they are. Yes, you have to look hard to find the cultural diamonds in the pile of modern trash, but it's there! Don't forget the underspoken historical importance of the region to the whole world, including Europe and Americas for that matter. Africa & South America - not the same bowl of soup, been there seen it. You shouldn't compare like that, that's unfair. They've got their own problems all right, just on some different planes... So do the "civilized" countries of the developed West... No place is perfect... Traveling the world you just have to accept as given that not all places are the same, innit so? :-) There's always another side to every coin, but I sure understand your sentiments and appreciate your honesty. There're times when diplomacy isn't an option. I guess if there'd be more people saying "f--c off" in Kazie instead of humbly agreeing with the stupidities... And I don't mean only foreign visitors, but the locals even more so... Then we'd stand a chance... Until then... "You American? Give me you money right away!" will continue to be their motto. BTW, the Kaz authorities attempt to rob me in the same manner very much like you've described every place I go to, it's a daily routine. Airport? Oh ya. Every f--king time... They might not be as polite and considerate with me though... Anyway, thanks for reading my today's ramble... :-) P.S. ima's a girl. |
| 6th July 2009 thedribbleman | Star Wars - From: Masada on a hangover Not from what I figure I 100% that it is in the Tunisia desert or around that area. Of course that depends on which Star Wars you are talking about. But I assume I know which one. |

| 29th June 2009 Bill | The Israeli girls - From: Crossing the Israel border did you get any action from the Israeli girls? Thats one of the big reasons Im going to Israel. Those who say they don't care about the girls there is like saying they read Playboy for the Articles!!! |

| 2nd June 2009 mikarov | assumed nationalities - From: Skiing in Iran? I was in Iran in 2007, im from Mexico, and the majority of Iranian they claimed, if i was Iranian, in all cities even one old lady was a bit angered that i cant speak farsi. Another nationalities assumed was Turkish, Pakistani, Azerbaijani and Italian. But never expect that i was Mexican. |
| 26th May 2009 thedribbleman | Okay to clarify what Ima is trying to say - From: Central Asia you got me First of all he thinks that I am a d!ckhead! What he is trying to say about Borat is that Kazakhstan didn't ask to be promoted and taken the piss out of. (Which is fair enough) If they want to promote themselves they can choose what they want to promote and promote it when they want to. With the whole countries had sorrows. There's alot of other countries in Africa and South America that have had the same if not worse situations then this area but they manage to be able to put a smile on their faces. And the nightclub if it were the cheapest at $17aud than christ hate to hear the amount of the mid range. But he also could have been meaning the shittest which he is probably correct. Thanks for the comment Ima! Your comments are always welcome on my blog. Maybe if you read my previous entries in Central Asia you would understand this blog better. |
| 25th May 2009 Drew Supporter | Get a life - From: Central Asia you got me Hey Ima What's your full name, Ima W*nker? Put a smile on your dial, can't we all just get along? Peace |
| 21st May 2009 ima | kazakhstan - From: Central Asia you got me I really sorry for your trip comments! You haven`t got any idea about kazakhstan! You are one of the most boring person i ever seen that`s why you`ve got all those dull emotions! when i read your story i even can see how you were trying to get a fun all over the world, but unfortunately its impossible, you are dull inside! We don`t need any promotions from your stupid Borat at all ! We have alot of things to be promoted and we will use it then will decide we need that! Why you think that we need that? why you think that we are proud of our authority ,we are trying to change this system! While you are living in the country which has a goverment, who makes their people stupid and dull just to control them! Our contries had a long history of sorrows and wars, thats why we have no reason to smile,it is a genetik inheretage, then you are always a reason of some war,but somethere, not on the territory of your contry! One more thing, you`ve been in the cheapest night club,by the way! |

| 3rd May 2009 mharleyuk | - From: Put the ipod away Just been looking at Central Asian blogs section and came across your Tajikistan entries, which led me to your Iranian ones too. I like your observations Drew, and your description of uncertainty about how to behave in a different culture. It must be tiring to continually write long entries like this, but I like your observations. Happy Travelling. |

| 21st February 2009 Zaldy | - From: Not that I'm bragging but I Just swam with whale sharks If you guys don't want to go to Clark Field, you'd be much better off landing at the new NAIA airport which just opened recently but AFAIK only Cebu Pacific operates there for now since most foreign airlines are still using the NAIA 2 airport. Hopefully by the end of 2009 they'll be settled and open for international flights. |
| 18th February 2009 thedribbleman | Apologies - From: Not that I'm bragging but I Just swam with whale sharks My photos of my last day in Manila is stuck inside a memory card that doesn't want to work. ALSO - I will be in Iran as of tonight so not sure if this website will work there. If it doesn't I will be away for a month and then there will be a barrage of blogs once I'm out. Hope to read more, but where are all the politically incorrect stories. "The last of the negative"...?? lets get it on! | 2nd December 2008 CT | What a snit you're in. - From: The Last of the Negative Stories Khao San Rd isn't that great but you can go over one street or across the street to Rambutri and find a much calmer atmosphere. Also, if you just walk to the river (Pier at Phra Atit) you will find one of the best forms of public transportation in Bangkok. The boats are cheap, 14 baht and take you to many interesting areas. Of course, you will have to walk a few blocks once you get of at the correct stop but seeing what is going on it the street is part of the fun. Pick up a map. I don't understand why you think the local bus is expensive. I there until mid-Nov. and it cost 6 baht to go across town. As to using tuk-tuks - wise up and take metered taxis. Just ask the driver before you get in if he will turn on the meter and if he says no, find another taxi. The fare begins at 39 baht and you can go across town for about 60 baht max. And stop being so horrified by the lady-boys. They are a fun fact of life all over Thailand. By the way I'm a 61 year old US woman who loves Bangkok and most of SE Asia. You don't seem like a person who should get so far from home. It makes you cranky. |
