Hanoi capital is my home city, where I was born and live my entire life. I have traveled a lot in Vietnam and abroad, but anywhere I go, I always miss my home city. There has been a lot of changes in Vietnam over the past few years, but Hanoi still maintains its charm with the old French architectural buildings, the old quarter, museums, lakes, parks and historical sites. On 10 October 2010, Hanoi celebrated the Millennium Year anniversary. The photos in this blog were taken during 2007 - 2012 in Hanoi. Below are some blogs about Hanoi: Blogs about flower festivals in Hanoi: ... read more

I have been to all countries in South East Asia (except East Timor). Brunei is the last country in SE Asia that I visited, and also my favorite country in the region. In May 2007, I visited Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) for a few days and enjoyed a great time over there. From Hanoi, I flew to Kuala Lumper then BSB on Air Asia budget airlines. My 15 hour transit at the LCCT (low cost carrier terminal) in KL was so long. Waiting for 15 hours over night at the airport was a real challenge to my patience. However, it was also fun watching people at the airport passing by me and I thought “This is my life! I love this.” At that time, I still needed a Brunei visa (visa fee US$12), but some months ... read more

April 28th 2006

In late April 2006, I had some days off work on our national holiday. The rice terraces in Banaue, which are a world heritage site, attracted me to go there and see them in reality. However, after searching information, I realized that there was only night bus traveling between Manila and Banaue. If I got that bus, I would be back in Manila at 2:00am. Leng, a Filipina friend, said that she was willing to go the bus station and pick me up at night. I was very touched by her kindness, but for the safety reason, I decided to stay in Manila. Also, I didn't want my holiday to be a mission, running around from A to B. Through a Chinese friend, I got the address of Friendly Guest House in Manila and booked my ... read more

February 2nd 2006

In February 2006, after visiting Authaya, I still had one more day in Bangkok. I decided to book a tour to Kanchanaburi. I used to hear about the Death Railway and the war cemetery in that province and planned to see them for a long time. A one day tour to Kanchanaburi cost 500 baht (same as the tour to Authaya) and it was one of the interesting tours I've done in Thailand. At 8:00am, a van from the travel company came to pick me up at my hotel. Our tour guide was a Thai girl. The first place we visited was the Kanchanaburi war cemetery. Kanchanaburi is a town, which is located close to Thailand - Myanmar border, approx 130km west of Bangkok. Walking on the green grass at the peaceful park, I read the ... read more

January 22nd 2006

22 January 2006 was the day when I stepped my foot in India and started my adventure in the Golden Triangle (Delhi - Agra - Jaipur). After traveling to Egypt and China as well as other countries, I always dreamed of visiting India, and on this day, my dream came true. From Hanoi, I flew to Bangkok on Air Asia then connected my flight to New Delhi on Air India. My flight BKK - New Delhi with Air India was delayed 24 hours, however the hotel that I booked in New Delhi still sent a car to the airport twice and waited until they could see me. That was the first caring gesture by the Indians. Next day, I rent a car (US$15 per day) and visited some places in Delhi. Walking down the streets in ... read more

In February 2005, I visted Myanmar for 11 days. I was in Cambodia (Angkor temples) and Indonesia (Borobudur temple) some years before this trip. I always thought about my next destination "Myanmar", as I wanted to see the thousands temples in Bagan, which are one of the must-sees in South East Asia. From Hanoi, I flew to Bangkok, then I took a 15-hour train to Chiang Mai. Air Mandalay flew once a week from Chiang Mai to Mandalay on ATR72. I booked this flight even 3 months before my trip. Leaving Mandalay airport for the town by taxi, my first impression of Mandalay was the sand color outside the airport, which reminded me of Sahara desert in Egypt. I spent only one day in Mandalay visiting 3 kingdoms near the town (Amarapura, Sagaing and Inwa) before ... read more

November 21st 2004

Since I was a little girl, I always dreamed about going to Japan. The country, people and their culture had attracted me so much that I decided to learn Japanese. We all know that Japanese is a very difficult language. For 3 years, I learned Japanese at the evening class. In fact, I learned Japanese even before English. 15 years after that decision, I had a business visa and air ticket for a trip to Japan. In November 2004, the Huế Hospital Construction Project in central Vietnam that I promoted was successful. The prize for my efforts was a 8-day business trip in Tokyo to attend the contract signing ceremony for that project. My Japanese construction company paid for everything and I also received business trip allowance. Most of the time I was in Tokyo. I ... read more

September 16th 2004

Indonesia is my favorite country in SE Asia. I visited this beautiful country in September 2004, just a week after the bomb blast at the Australian Embassy in Jakarta. I decided to visit Bali and Java islands, as I wanted to see Borobudur temple near Yogyakarta. From Hanoi, I had to take 7 flights Hanoi - Sai Gon - Singapore - Denpasar - Yogyakarta - Singapore - Sai Gon - Hanoi on Garuda Indonesia (US$650 for only flights). I did not include Jakarta on this visit. The first place in Bali that I visited was Sari club bombing memorial site, where 202 people were killed on Saturday night Oct 12, 2002. There were tears in my eyes, as I walked toward the fence of the site and saw a flower wreath from the Australian Embassy and ... read more

While waiting at Don Muang airport in Bangkok for connecting my flight to Dubai, I went into a bookshop and saw a book about Laos. On the book cover, there was a picture of a Laotian kid sitting on a big jar at the Plain of Jars. It was so attractive that I decided I wanted to go there. 4 months later, in January 2004, I had a 8 day holiday at Tet (Vietnamese lunar new year) and was ready to go after searching a lot of information. From Hanoi, I flew to Luang Prabang, then took a local bus to Phonsavan. I spent a few days in Vientiane, crossed Lao - Thai border to Nong Khai town, then back in Vientiane again to fly back home. There are not many Vietnamese who are interested in ... read more

September 9th 2003

In September 2003, a friend told me that a travel company in Hanoi was going to organize a tour to Egypt. I had never expected that someday I would step my foot in Africa to see the pyramids and Sahara desert, as it was unrealistic for me to travel so far away. At that time, after the SARS, Emirates Airlines offered a great airfare from Bangkok to Dubai then Cairo, and fortunately, the travel company had found enough tourists (from both Hanoi and Sai Gon) for our tour. I was the youngest member on the trip. Having traveled to 15 different countries, Egypt is my favorite country. The trip in 2003 proved to be the most memorable trip in my life. After a 6-hour flight from BKK, we arrived in Dubai at mid night and stopped ... read more
