Day 7 Woke up early and left Rohnert Park by 7:45 a.m. It was just under 7 hours (couple of stops included) and the voyage was over. Kyle and Elise were waiting with lunch and fresh baked cookies. It was great to be home. It was a whirlwind trip - over 2200 miles and 7 states - although a few states we only "passed" through. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything - overall a wonderful way to spend a week! Thank you for reading and sharing this time with me! xoxo ilene... read more

Day 6 Reno was fun but we must get back on the road. We grabbed a quick breakfast at the hotel, visited the gift shop for our "token" magnet and we were off. It's an easy drive out of Reno towards Tahoe..beautiful as has been most of the drive. We were happy to enter the State of California again! Our only stop of this trip was the Jelly Belly factory! They were having a huge 15 year anniversary celebration so there were no guided tours - just self-guided. Fine with us! There were cool art pieces made with Jelly Belly's and although they were not in production on a Saturday, it was still neat to see all the machines and the millions of Jelly Belly's waiting to be packaged. Of course there was a gift shop ... read more

Day 5 Got up and out of Boise early – by 9:20 we were on the road – that’s early for us! It was quite cool - 62 degrees when we left. Hampton Inn gives you a cute “to-go” bag with water, a muffin, fruit, cereal bar and mints. I got three and we were set with snacks for the road. We chose to not stop at any sightseeing destinations so we could get to Reno at a reasonable hour. Tyler started as the driver and we switched after a while to Evan. We crossed from Idaho into Oregon for a short time and then entered Nevada. It is good practice for Evan to drive, but certainly not LA driving – it’s the open road. After a short stop for gas (where we saw a line-up ... read more

Day 4 Woke up to breakfast at the hotel (waffles, eggs, etc) Boys were slow at getting up but we have another big day.so off we go. Took a while to get going but got out eventually with Tyler driving the first leg to the Idaho Potato Factory in Blackfoot. Cute, small but way worth it! The museum is located inside their Chamber of Commerce building. Took pictures and we’re on our way again. I’ve taken over the wheel to Arco, Idaho and lunch at Pickle’s Place. Burgers, fries and fried pickles for all. Even bought some of John’s famous seasoning…We continued on through flat Idaho (with Evan driving) until we got to craters of the Moon National Park. After a short Visitor Center stop, we headed out to the park. What a spectacular place! It ... read more

Day 3 Woke to a beautiful sunny day in Jackson. Had breakfast at the local restaurant and then we’re on our way to Yellowstone – Yogi here we come! Stopped for gas and used up the rest of the Shell gas card - thanks credit union! Stopped for one last photo at the town square (at the Elk Horns) and then the Dollar Tree for another styrofoam ice chest and we were on our way! BTW – Evan is the driver! First you go through the Grand Teton National Park. I decided to ask about the Access Pass at the Ranger Station – since I didn’t get it in the mail from the Parks Service before we left – and the Ranger – seriously – no questions asked – after I showed him Tyler’s Disabled Permit ... read more

Day 2 Packed car to get out of hotel. Not a great night. We were woken up at 3 am and then 6 am with a TRAIN next to us..then I went to pack the car and the elevator was not working. I had a not so nice word with the front desk guy…Evan not feeling well. Decided to go to Celestial Seasonings factory first. Thought we would get breakfast along the way, but we were there pretty quickly. Really cute place. Went to café Evan got bagel that he didn’t eat..same with Tyler...maybe it's the altitude? Packed food to go…. My breakfast of “scrambled” eggs were a mess too. The cashier wouldn’t let me pay and got me a new batch She also brought me a box of tea! Went to the tour center but ... read more

Day 1 Great flight from LA to Denver – Frontier Airlines. Treated flight attendants to GS cookies..always a good way to make friends! Met up with Tyler who was on separate flight from Oakland. Went to get shuttle to Hotel. Clark checked us in at the Doubletree Hotel in Denver. Gave us fresh baked cookies! Hung out until my nephew Dan came to the hotel. He brought the car. Boy, does it need to be washed!! I drove car with all the boys to Dan’s house. Met his dog, Wraith, 13 y/o and a sweetie. Invited friend Rachel to dinner and off we went to Mezza Lebanese Restaurant. Yummy and homemade…fresh pita (right out of the oven) stuffed grape leaves, schwarma and kafki. Great conversation! Brought Dan & Rachel back and headed back to the hotel ... read more
