We woke to a raining morning, but Karina was still determined to do the Statue Of Liberty Island Ferry so we packed our bags ready to leave New York and headed out into the light but steady rain after a bowl of cereal. The lines at the ferry were about half as long as our last attempt - the rain may actually have worked to our advantage. It was still a slow, long wait but we eventually boarded the 1st ferry of the day and landed on Liberty Island to cold wind and light rain. Regardless, it's an impressive sight and [View Full Entry]

We could afford a bit of a sleep in this morning as today all we had planned was baseball. We woke a little too late to do some washing, but we were very pleased to see that the rain had held off again! We caught the subway straight out to the game, with me being an avid Mets fan since we bought the tickets a few months ago of course wearing my Mets cap, which wound its way through Queens on its way to the stadium. We caught glimpses of Queens from the train, as it runs above ground once it [View Full Entry]

The weather was slightly overcast today, but still not even a hint of rain, so we've been extremely lucky. We thought we'd get out to the Statue Of Liberty Ferry early to beat the queues, only to find when we got there, about 9am, that absolutely everyone else visiting New York had the same idea. After waiting in the 200m queue for some 15 mins, we decided that there'd be no way we'd make the 11:30am cruise as well, so we left it for another day and headed back Uptown to catch the cruise we missed yesterday. Although the lines for [View Full Entry]

Another day of perfect weather to start our 2-day hop-on hop-off open-top bus tour. We opted to start with the Uptown tour since we haven't seen any of Uptown just yet. The tour skirted Central Park - past John Lennon's apartment where he was fatally shot - and wound through the Upper West side, past the Lincoln Centre, Columbus University etc into Harlem. Harlem was interesting to see, and although there's still plenty of housing projects in the area, it's becoming trendy with a lot white people and businesses such as banks moving into the area. We hopped-off mid Museum Mile [View Full Entry]

The weather for Day 2 in New York was just as fabulous as the 1st. It took us a while to get out the door - we're still tired - so we opted to find a McDonalds for a healthly (really) breakfast. Karina was devastated to find that they don't actually do "healthy" over here. About the only palatable (we thought) things on the menu were the Egg & Bacon Biscuit (scone), the hash brown and the hotcakes. Ughh, they were disgusting, especially the Biscuit! We headed off to Centrl Park and, looking to buy a cheap cap for Karina, we [View Full Entry]

We woke, still tired, to glorious weather for our first full day in New York. We stopped off at Murray's Bagels for breakfast, both of us opting for scrambled eggs on a bagel. Not exactly cheap and not exactly healthy, but we had to try it. Another tick off the to-do list. I opted for the Salt bagel, which I assumed was a bagel sprinkled with salt. What it turned out to be was, in fact, salt with some bagel inside. After our 1st subway ride (tick) we arrived early for the TV & Movie location tour, so we went for [View Full Entry]

After a horror 13hr flight to LAX from Sydney, Australia (where the in-flight entertainment was down for a couple of hours at one stage) we were relieved to find the 4 hr New York flight was less than 10% full. A 30 min taxi ride from JFK to our apartment on West 19th St (between 8th & 9th Aves) in Chelsea and we were greeted by the owner - Patricia - who was lovely but talked our ears off for what I'd guess was 45 mins. It was around 8pm when we could finally relax and, having settled on Thai from [View Full Entry]
