Matt: A lot of my mates in London were surprised when I told them that Ed and I were doing a road trip around Germany over the Easter break. For some reason, the British seem to have a pretty bad opinion of all things German. If you believed them, Germany is a country filled with nothing but humourless BMW drivers who live in dull grey cities and have waning libidos. I guess the whole two wars in one century thing can get you down on a country - even if you did win both! In fact, faced with a barrage of [View Full Entry]

The Royal Bath...

Ed: Our trip to Budapest began with our first flight using Easyjet. Now, if you’ve read Matt’s description of Easyjet’s main discount competitor, Ryanair, well this was the same but with the added extra of an underclass clientele! We had the pleasure of sharing our flight with two buck’s night groups, a Z-grade middle age rugby team, a hen’s night, and the local junkie which just happened to end up sitting next to Matt. It was the rowdiest, smelliest and most unpleasant leg to date. The junkie next to Matt (who looked like he had taken a big gulp of methado [View Full Entry]

Matt: Since arriving in the UK, I have been surprisingly healthy. While Ed has been battling constant colds and a minor bout of pneumonia, I have mocked his weak constitution and told him that my strong European genes made me better suited to living in cold and wet places. And so it was probably karma when found myself waking up on the morning that we were due to leave for Malta with an uncomfortable feeling in the pit of my stomach. The night before I had arrived home late from work and picked up a pizza. Unfortunately our local pizzeria, although [View Full Entry]

Ed: After spending the last 3 weeks without travelling anywhere (care of KPMG keeping Matt extremely busy and stressed), a driving trip to Cotswolds for the weekend seemed like the perfect escape. For those who don’t know, the Cotswolds are quintessential England - one of the most picturesque regions, full of rolling hills and charming villages full of golden stone cottages. It’s the perfect romantic getaway. So with an early start on Saturday, we headed out west of London, with map in one hand and a Lonely Planet guide on the other. Now, the Cotswolds covers quite a lar [View Full Entry]

Ed: Our weekend to Sweden began with a 4:30am alarm on Saturday morning in order to get to Heathrow in time for our 7am departure. Luckily, no dramas on this occasion, such the expert travellers we’ve become. Tim and Greer were supposed to have joined our flight, but dreaded an early start so cheated by booking a flight the previous night and staying at the Sheraton! We arrived to a snow covered Stockholm late morning and headed straight for the town to meet Greer and Tim at their hotel. After dragging them out of the warmth of the hotel and the [View Full Entry]

Matt: When Ed and I were planning our European adventure, there were a number of events that we knew we would have to see. From the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona to Oktoberfest and the Cannes Film Festival, this continent really has heaps to offer the culture buff. And so it was that last weekend, Ed I decided to visit that other cultural beacon of Europe: the Leicester Comedy Festival…! For some reason, Leicester has a bit of a bad reputation in the UK. It’s known for… well, in truth, it’s not really known at all. Despite being the home [View Full Entry]

Ed: I have a new favourite airport - London City. It’s only a small airport with a really short runway which means that it only suits small aircraft. But it’s the easiest and quickest one to get to and you don’t have to wait for 20 minutes for your luggage like all the other airports - which is pretty unique so far as British airports go! We flew out of London City this weekend after Matt won a competition for two free tickets to Copenhagen in a competition run by Scandinavian Airlines, SAS. We left Friday night and got there just [View Full Entry]

Our Little Car
Entrance to Hamlet's Castle

Ed: A couple of months back, Mon suggested we should hire a car and take a weekend trip up to France. It’s taking us more than 3 months to finally get a weekend where we were all available (what with our travels, Mon & Chris getting married, and Bec and Ben organising their Christmas dinner and their other thousand commitments!)… But last weekend we finally were able to go on our adventure. Matt volunteered to hire the car (as KPMG has a contract with Avis for cheap deals), and Mon was in charge of looking into places that were must see [View Full Entry]

Matt: After four months of living in the UK during winter, newly arrived Australians often find that they crave three main things: 1) The feel of warm sand between their toes (for some reason, the muddy flats of the Thames just don’t seem to be enough); 2) The sight of amazing scenery (quaint and cute as it is, Britain’s landscape lacks the wow factor - it’s more ‘oh’ than ‘WHOA!’); 3) A good dose of vitamin D (during winter, the sun literally goes missing for months at a time). This weekend, Ed and I found the cure to all of these [View Full Entry]

Loro

Ed: Well another trip another early start. We had planned for an early night in our one day of rest between Paris and Edinburgh, but Bec and Ben ended up coming over for dinner. And so after eating, chatting and a bottle of wine, that idea went out the window! I’m proud to say that we at least got all the laundry done amongst it all, even if it was a rush job to pack the suitcase yet again! We’d bought a roast chicken to make chicken and mayo sandwiches for the long train trip the next day (must take advantage [View Full Entry]
