| 20th December 2008 tannismc | Personalized watermark - From: Calm Before the Storm I created the signature as a separate file in photoshop (Photoshop Elements actually)--I scanned in my own signature and then adjusted it to look the way I want it. The signature file has a transparent background. I then add it as a new layer to my photos, and once it is the position and size I like, I merge the layers to save as a new jpg. Don't know if that make sense--it's the short version of how I did it. These photos were some of the first ones I did--I've made some changes to how the signature looks since then, but haven't used the new signature on any photos yet. Tannis |

| 23rd November 2007 kate | Moving Tribute - From: Cold Wind, Silent Tears, and a Heavy Heart Your photos and written piece are a moving tribute to what happened in that place. People need to see that to believe it - because otherwise, its very hard to imagine that such horrible things occured in a place like that. k |
| 15th November 2007 tannismc | I don't actually hate Berlin. I never did - From: My love-hate relationship with Berlin Clearly, my anonymous commenter did not actually read my blog very carefully, because the first sentence is "OK, I don't hate Berlin." And the last sentence is "I'd like to come back to this city again, so it can reveal more of itself to me." Why would I want to go back to a place if I actually hated it? I used the term "love-hate relationship" in the title to refer to the fact that I felt miserable in Berlin, because I was sick, but I loved the city anyway. My apologies to anyone I may have offended. But to 'anon reader,' if you are going to accuse me of hate-mongering, at least have the courage to use your name and give me a real email address so that I have a chance to respond to you! |
| 15th November 2007 anon reader | "hate" - From: My love-hate relationship with Berlin I have to say, I think the word "hate" is both a bit strong and downright innapropriate when visiting a place such as berlin, especially when using it because there are smokers in a common area of a hostel. Hate is a very strong word and using it in the context of germany, and a blog that deals with the holocaust is rather offensive. |
| 14th November 2007 Sara | Pictures.. - From: My love-hate relationship with Berlin Speak a thousand words Tannis. To tell you the truth, I'm quite jealous. I always wanted visit Berlin! Your pictures speak volumes of how magnificent and beautiful it would be in person. My personal favorite were those voluptuous women statues in Lustgarden. | 28th May 2007 tannismc | Aerial photos - From: Christmas on the West Coast No fancy planes or hanging out windows. It's one minor adjustment in photoshop--the levels. I use the histogram to define the 'maximum' black and white in the photo. It's like taking away a veil from the photo. |
| 28th May 2007 EL | crisp photos - From: Christmas on the West Coast i'm wondering how your aerial photos are so crisp. it looks like you might be hanging out of the airplane!! did you rent one for the day, just to get some crystal clear shots? i have never been able to take such sharp images from an airplane ... esp the rockies photo in the upper right hand corner. tell me your secret!! ... please. :) |
| 12th November 2006 Keith | Wonderful pictures Tannis - From: Moce mada (Farewell) Your photogrophy is wonderful, as are your descriptions of events. |
| 16th October 2006 Sai Lewa | Selmat from Malaysia - From: The Colours of Levuka and the mystery of Fiji Gold Hello Tannis, I kind'a chuckled when I was reading about your exciting holiday in Fiji....on the old capital. Took me back home. Especially the bit aboutt you trying to order a Fiji Gold from the menu.....not surprisingly of course, that it wasn't there...!! To an ordinary Fijian, such incidences are not uncommon. I am actually a journalist from Fiji's only television station studying in Malaysia. I return home in a fortnight. For now, please enjoy your holidays. Moce... |
| 16th August 2006 Syl Cowtan | Way to go, girl!! - From: The Ripple Effect of Security Delays Hi Tannis, I'm having a rather boring day at work so decided to spice up my day by reading about your travels. I see that I will have to live vicariously through you!! Wonderful photos! Have a great holiday in your second "home" Syl |
| 3rd May 2006 Sharon | Letterfrack - From: At a computer in Clifden... Hi! I enjoyed your journal entry about Letterfrack, Kylemore Abbey, the Old Monastery Hostel, and the Connemara National Park! I'm traveling to Ireland this July; I went with my daughter last summer--this summer I'm on my own! I'm starting and ending in Dublin. I'll travel north, by or through Belfast, to Giant's Causeway, Bushmills, and the Carrick-a-rede Rope Bridge. Then I'll go to Derry, Donegal, Galway, Westport (I want to climb Croagh Patrick on Reek Sunday), Tipperary (to check geneology), Enniscorthy, Co. Wicklow, and back to Dublin. I'd like to tour some islands--Clare, Inishbofin, Tory. The more I read about Ireland, the more places I want to stay! Just tonight, I read about an hour tour out of Letterfrack, on the Queen of Connemara. And after reading your journal, I know it's ANOTHER place I want to visit! I hope you get the opportunity to see the Giant's Causeway! It sounds--and looks--awesome! I can't wait to see it ALL! Sharon |
| 16th December 2005 Christine Said | What a great job - From: A miracle, a fishing village, and fireworks I was browsing the internet in search of pictures of the Mosta dome, and I came across your site. I must say I'm amazed. Being a maltese citizen makes me feel so proud to read such a brilliant description of my home island, and I am also pleased to read that you were satified and enjoyed yourself. Thanks alot. |
| 1st September 2005 tannismc | Maltese People - From: Ancient Temples, Liars, and Cheats Since I've been back, I've heard/read comments other travellers have made on the Maltese people, and it is indeed unfortunate that the dishonest ones (which are everywhere) leave such a strong impression, like they did on me. There were definitely many more Maltese people I encountered who were friendly and helpful. As for diving, I was raised in the middle of the prairies, where the nearest ocean was a fifteen hour drive away and the freshwater was too cold and murky to inspire any diving. I debated for a long time whether or not to try diving in Malta. In the end, it just didn't work for this trip, but if I am ever back in Malta, I won't miss the opportunity again! |
| 1st September 2005 Claude | Liars, Cheats and Honest People - From: Ancient Temples, Liars, and Cheats I was very upset to read what you had to say about taxi drivers and other persons involved in the tourist business here in Malta. Not because this is not true but on the contrary because such people make a very bad name for us Maltese and the country. As a Maltese person who also depends from the tourist trade i am appalled by the behaviour of some. On the other hand i read through other parts of your journal and was pleased to note that you had many positive encounters even with maltese people. I assure you and your readers that the maltese people are warm and welcoming and are always ready to help. Of course we have others who do not care and some who look at tourists and only see money but that is just the few i repeat. I noticed that you really liked Marsaxlokk (the fishing village) and that's excellent because its where I used to live and i agree with you that the place is charming. On the other hand you really missed out on diving... Especially when you knew that the blue hole in dwejra gozo is one of the most beautiful dives in the world... Maybe you should visit again and we could go diving there. Regards Claude Sciberras |
