Great memories :) I love your family travel blogs - isnt Margs special? I remember many trips down to Simmos icecreamery and the Candy Cow with my boys when they were little - thanks for the memories.
thanks cindy! If you havent been there for a while then you will be massively surprised as there was 10 times more things than 10 years ago. Although, i guess i wasnt looking for child friendly things 10 years ago :)
Rubbish on the beach It's great to hear that you enjoyed your 5 day escape to Bali. I've never stayed at Kumula Pantai but I have been to their Italian Restaurant many times. I just love the Gnocchi in tomato sauce and it's nice to sit under the large trees while watching the beach.
As for the beach. It depends on the time of year. During the rainy season the currents bring all the rubbish right on the beach. Bali has been dealing with this problem for years and there are many rubbish-management schemes but the number of tourists is exceeding and there isn't enough ways to process it. On top of that many rubbish is thrown in the rivers which is taken to the sea and I believe there is even rubbish from neighbouring islands. During the dry season the beaches remain clean and during those months you can wake up early for a walk and swim...
Luckily the Balinese and many hotels owners realize the importance of clean beaches. So they make sure that it is clean before the crowd appears. Hopefully they will find a solution soon because I wonder how long they can keep up plus at one point the rubbish is going to be more and more.
Back in Bali..... Damn those beaches are grotty aren't they, but at least the Indonesians get most of it cleaned up by lunch time bless 'em. I was told that during the monsoon, the rainfall washes all of the garbage into the sea only for it to then wash up on the beaches around the island.
Glad you found NaiYang Awesome little beach isnt it? Glad your trip with the kids and gran turned out to be fun...and that presidential suite looks amazing!
Minnie and the Little Miss Hopefully, that enthralled look in her eyes made all the walking worth it. Good for you for continuing to travel even though you've got two in tow. I imagine they open a lot of doors for chats with locals. May the shade follow you the rest of your trip, and you avoid storms like that amazing one approaching in your first photo.
Sounds like you had a nice time..... .....despite all the walking! It makes me laugh that these places never give visitors a place to get out of the sun. It seems like they are actively trying to drive people away. I must do HK myself one day, although some of the prices make me go rather weak at the knees!!!
I think HK is pretty much the same as any big international city - singapore, frankfurt etc. At least food is cheap if youre happy to eat rice or noodles :)
hehe it looks that way but i wasnt driving the ferrarri's or lamboghini's :) This hotel was quite impressive but at the cheaper end of the medium scale as it was sort of out of the way a bit... disneyland resort on the other hand we only had the 1 room for the 4 of us to stay in - no way i could justify that $$$!
I just reviewed all your blogs since you took this trip in 2008... to see the progression and your kids growing up. Well done in completing the story thus far. With kids its great to be able to do all the beaches!
Childhood memories here :) I love this blog Tam, it reminds me of trips to Ningaloo as a kid and later as an adult - trying to get up there on term break. Its also inspired me to do a retro blog of my time working at Ningaloo. My god that caravan park is massive isnt it???
Thanks Bob I think especially the ones with the kids i'll put in as it will be good for them to have stories to go with the photos for when they are older. Plus it is showing how much i already have forgotten!
Spare seats on planes I've discovered another excellent piece of info... turns out some airlines such as qantas have a rule that a single male cannot sit beside a child or mother with an infant. So if youre attempting to get a spare seat when doing the seat allocations put your child in the middle seat and unless the plane is very full or there is an abundance of single women travelling your odds of getting the seat beside your child empty has massively increased!
Glad you enjoyed Cairns Hi. I'm a Cairns local and have just started a travel blog for families traveling with a baby or small child. Glad to see you give Paradise Palms a mention. One of the best places to dine with a little one that I have ever come across. http://www.bubsonthemove.com
Thanks Hi, thanks for the input and had a look at your blog and it looks really good. You'll need to add some of your past stories! There are quite a few people on travelblog travelling with small kids...one family has been on the move for over 12 months with 2 under 3, i've no idea how they do it and love reading their stories. tam
only if you're a gambling a man lol! On the weekend there was a little white netted area you could swim in at each of the beaches but my Dad reckons crocodiles have been known to swim in those too!
I am a very devoted and addicted traveller so just want to talk travel. Where to go, what to do, when to do it etc etc. My hubby and I have been to loads of places....all over Australia, all over the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Spain, Amsterdam, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Bahamas, Barbados, Mexico, South Africa, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia off the top of my head :)
But...in 2007 our lives changed and along came our little Midget and in 2010 the Little Miss arrived too. We've continued our travels but have stuck to around 10,000km s... full info
