Day 12 Bruges to London, England. Thursday 10th January 2013 So I didn’t plan my last day that well. I should have got up earlier, stashed the suitcase at the airport and gone exploring Brussels for a couple of hours. Hey ho. Just another reason to revisit this lovely city. I started with breakfast and then a little walk along the river and back to catch a cab to the train station to take me to the Eurostar in Brussels. I wish I had longer in Bruges as I didn’t get to go to many places like the Chocolate Factory but its definitely somewhere you would go back to, maybe with a date! I had two hours to kill at the airport so did a little shopping, got a coffee ... read more

Day 11 Amsterdam to Bruges, Belgium. Wednesday 9th January 2013 We return to London today via the medieval Belgian city of Bruges where mouth watering chocolates and a vast selection of beers are readily available. We arrive back in London early evening. A beautiful city to end our trip in. The people left with us were stopping for lunch here and then were London bound but I had decided to book a night here and get the Eurostar back the next day. So into the square we went and Michelle and I found a lovely little tea shop to have a hot chocolate in. And oh god, one of the best hot... read more

Day 10 Amsterdam. Tuesday 8th January 2013 This morning we can cycle Amsterdam just like the locals. Spend the rest of the day checking out Amsterdam’s museums or trendy cafes. Tonight there’s a farewell dinner followed by an optional canal cruise. Amsterdamage! So today started with a bike ride around the city. Our group was too big to go as one so split into two our one ventured off at pace over the bridges, down the alleys ... read more

Day 9 Rhine Valley to Amsterdam, Netherlands. Monday 7th January 2013 Unique Amsterdam beckons with its array of funky coffee shops, busy canals and literally millions of bicycles. Enjoy an evening taking in the atmosphere – a mix of modern and historical Europe with a Dutch flavour – windmills, tulips, cheese and clogs. Staying in a castle was magical and I definitely want to do a Rhine river cruise at some point. We stopped in town to visit the Stein shop and the Cuckoo clock shop and I couldn’t leave without buying an original official Stein Bear for my sister. Which led me to start buying presents for everyone else! After another fairly l... read more

Day 8 - Munich to Rhine Valley. Sunday 6th January 2013 A day of discovery – medieval castles, vineyards and the mighty Rhine River which carves its way through the countryside. Tonight spend the night in one of the many castles along the banks of the Rhine. I think this is the part of the trip, bar Paris, I was looking forward to the most. I had always wanted to visit the Rhine Valley and although we only had one night here, we were staying in a castle! A sobering start to the day. Feeling a bit better but still full of cold and rainy damp weather added to the mood of our fir... read more

Day 7 - Venice to Munich, Germany via Austria. Saturday 5th January 2013 A change of pace as we arrive in the capital of the Bavarian region of Germany. Munich has long been known for the annual Oktoberfest Beer Festival so tonight grab a stein and a traditional pork knuckle or German sausage at one of Munich’s famous beer halls! A very long drive up across Austria with several games, films and comedies to watch on the coach and we arrive in Munich late evening due to the traffic. As we only had one night here, 6 of us all stayed in one room (my usual crowd plus Courtney) – it was very big and down in the corner! We all met up in reception a... read more

Day 6 - Venice, Italy Friday 4th January 2013 Time for Venice in depth! There are two ways to really see Venice and today we do both – a walking tour to visit the sights such as the Rialto Bridge and St Mark’s Square with its famous basilica, as well as a vaporetto ride on the Grand Canal to experience Venice from the water…an optional gondola ride is a must-do as well! The memory of you One of my favourite places of all time. I have only been here once before on a day trip, but it stayed in my head and in my heart and now Southend Airport flies there, I would have no hesitation on ni... read more

Day 5 - Swiss Alps to Venice, Italy Thursday 3rd January 2013 A complete change in landscape and culture today, as we head to Venice. Be prepared for the breathtaking beauty of this amazing place – one that will not be forgotten! Verona. Home to the Romeo and Juliet love story. As a treat on our way to Venice, we stopped here and we were in the city of love, with a fully grown man dressed as a …baby? Is this what passes for street entertainment round here? Where are the Covent Gardenesque jugglers and singers? Anyway, I digress. We pulled the coach into a car park and wandered down the road to the middle of town coming up again... read more

Day 4 - Lauterbrannen, Swiss Alps Wednesday 2nd January 2013 An optional excursion to the summit of the Jungfrau Mountain, home of Europe’s highest rail station anyone?! So breakfast was spent discussing the night before, and getting ready to go! The tales I heard of what went on after I went to bed were hilarious! We walked up into town ready for our trip up Jungfrau. How exciting. Most people were still amazed by all the snow but wait until they get to the top. Some of the guys went skiing or snowboarding and som... read more

Day 3 – Paris to Lauterbrannen, Swiss Alps, Switzerland New Year’s Day -Tuesday 1st January 2013 Magnificent Swiss scenery is on display today as we travel to our base in the Swiss Alps. All aboard the coach were very tired people all quiet and sleepy for the morning. A couple of hours in, we were awake and playing games on the coach that Carly set up. They were so funny. Then she put one of the best films on of all time. Taken. Oh yes. And as we had just spent 2 days in Paris where the film was set, it was even more fun to watch. Unfortunately Carly had never seen i... read more
