San Francisco Day 8

We didn39t have any plans this day other than getting up having breakfast and packing at a leisurly pace. After 11am checkout we stored our bags with the hostel and walked around the city a little bit. We did some shopping at HM then went for lunch at Chipotle. Apparently we have a few in Canada as well but I39d never heard of it. SOOOOO good. It39s Mexican. I chose a burrito and then

San Francisco Day 7

The plan for the day was to hop across the street from our hostel downtown to one of the many car rental places rent a car and head to Muir Woods and Sonoma County for the day. The problem was the huge lineup at Hertz. We tried one of the others Alamo I think that claimed the car would need to be returned by 7pm. Also said that they were the ones opened the latest in the area. That was a lie. W

San Francisco Day 6

Day 6 started with our trip to Alcatraz We walked about 3040 minutes from our hostel downtown to the pier where we had to catch our boat. They then took cheesy photos in front of a backdrop like they do when you first get onto a cruise ship then we were off. As we left the pier the view of the city behind us was awesome. When we arrived at Alcatraz Island they herded us over to one area where

San Francisco Day 5

Today was our big shopping day in Chinatown. We love the shopping there because everything is cheap for the most part and little trinkets can be picked up.We started the day in a store just outside of town that was my own personal heaven. I saw a sign that said yarn and just HAD to check it out. The store was lovely and makes and dyes all their yarns. It took me awhile to pick one out but I fi

San Francisco Day 4

Today Alisa and I were able to meet up with my friends Jennie and Eric and their two kids. I taught 4th grade with Jennie in Honduras and Eric worked at the school as well. I know the kids well too and really missed this wonderful family so I was so excited when I found out that they live close to San Fran and were willing to make the trip into the city for the day to visit.Alisa and I woke up

San Francisco Day 3

After 2 days of walking everywhere Alisa and I decided it was time to rent a car. Between her back troubles and my blistered feet it was high time. We also decided we39d be able to cover a lot more ground during that time by being able to drive to random locations that were too out of the way to walk to and would have required public transit to reach.SOOOOOOOO worth the money We had Enterpri

San Francisco Day 1 and 2

So yesterday afternoon we did indeed head over to the Fisherman39s Warf area where we first visited Ghirardelli Square where they make the world famous chocolate We got some ice cream and dark chocolate hot fudge on top The ice cream was mediocre but the hot fudge on it was worth itThe walk around the piers and shops in the Fisherman39s Warf area was nice. Pier 39 is the nicest of course

Day 1 in San Francisco

So Alisa and I decided to take a trip to San Francisco to celebrate my 30th birthday... although let39s be honest it was just a good excuse to do some traveling. She flew from Philidelphia and I flew from Buffalo much cheaper than Toronto and our planes met in Chicago and from there we had a 4 hour flight to San Fran. The flight was nice as it was good to catch up. It39s been a year sin

Semana Santa Vacay on a Beach in El Salvador

For Semana Santa this year I decided I wanted to head to El Salvador since it39s one of the only Central American countries I have left to travel before I leave to head back to Canada in June. I do still have Panama and Belize as well but I figure I can do those some time in the future as a trip from Canada.Paule had also never seen El Salvador and Bridgette decided to come along as well so

Sights Around San Salvador

We arrived to San Salvador on Thursday late afternoon. Arnold our personal taxi driver we kept calling when we needed someone dropped us off at the hotel Hotel Tazumal House just for enough time to check in drop off our stuff and then drove us to a nearby mall called Metro Centro. Driving through San Salvador we kept mentioning how much better it seemed than Tegucigalpa or Tegucighetto

School started back August 1st for the teachers. We had many training sessions as well as meetings and setting up our classrooms.
Day 4 Visit to Whistler

Wednesday morning was an early one as I was off to catch the 8am Greyhound bus to Whistler. About 50 later I was off. It39s about a 2.5 hour ride from Vancouver to Whistler but I39d heard the Sea to Sky Highway had gorgeous views so I was actually looking forward to the ride. Unfortunately my tired body had other plans for me as I fell asleep on the way... oops I woke up in Squamish and

My original thought was that I39d spend the day at the aquarium AND the park but that was not the case as I spent almost the entire day at the AquariumSince Dana works there she was able to get me signed into the guest book and it was free for me to enter. Dana met me at the front lobby and walked me through to her wet lab which is where she spends most of her time. The wet lab is open t

We then made it back to Downtown where we looked around the harbourCanada Place and then caught the Trolley Tour around Stanley Park.
So when I asked my friend Dana when she39d be home this summer she told me that she39d only be home over the Labour Day weekend by which time I39d already be back in Honduras and then asked when I was planning on coming to Vancouver. This began the beginning of my decision to be a tourist in my own country this summerMom was able to find me a pretty good seat sale with WestJet and so

Comayagua Honduras and Antigua Guatemala are the two best known places in Central America to see the alfombras or carpets each Semana Santa Holy Week on Good Friday. Although there are a few other places doing them as well none are as well known as these two cities. I have now seen the sawdust carpets 3 times and am still impressed at the fine detail and work that goes into them. Most a
