I have been a software developer for years and two years ago many things in my life broke down. I lost the girl i loved, my job became a must-do, I lost happyness. Now I regained power and I feel I have enough courage to focus my dreams, to look out for my future through a travel of which I dont know where it will lead me to. It has started with the 1st of September 2008...

Saturday, 20th September 2008 - Alexandria I cycled in the afternood and it felt nice to be on the road again. Short before Alexandria my view fell on a shop where several strange things where offered: broken music instruments, old mashines, tools, and even beds! I liked it :) I stopped and talked to the shop owener Ioannes (Johannis, an about 55 year old man) with a smile. He invited me to a coffee, and in fact I could sleep at his house later. When he closed the shop, I left the bike there and he took me with his car to a big market and fair, where I was invited for food and bought some shoes that I hoped would suit my better for cycling. Thursday, 11th September 2008 - Kozani I had my cloths washed in a washing shop for the local students and asked people for a cheap hostel to stay. A beautiful girl (there are so many of them in this town) recommended a hotel near the center: Anesis Hotel. They charged me 25 Euro for the cheapest room they had with a shared bathroom. In the evening I made contact to a local shop owner on the central square of Kozani, which is a great place to relax, talk and watch the passing people. His name is Baschos, he worked in Germany before, so we could talk in German. His family and friends and their family also passed by and we talked very nice till 1 AM in the night. Best experience was when Alikmini, the 62 ... read more

6th September 2008 - Igoumenitsa The ferry arrived in Igoumenitsa on the west cost of Greece on Sunday, 6th of September around 6:45. Jon and I left the ferry on the bikes and imidiately started our journey towards Ioannina, heading east for Thessaloniki (distance: 375 kilometers). The first hills were exhausting since I did not train at all for this trip, and the first day of cycling included a climb to 700m and down again. Jons tire exploded of the heat his breaks had caused on the steep way down the hill - something I will remember to check downhill. I had my first Frappe in the nice coffee where he stopped to change his tube. I like Greece :) We did not reach Ioannina as hoped, where there is the first camp site, but we ... read more

Travel Idea and Italy as Starting Point I start this blog 28 days after the beginning of my travel because I noticed I repeat myself so often, telling my friends about my travel experiences. If other Travellers are interested in my experiences, I am happy to share with them. I chose English as language for my blog because of that and so that friends I make on my travel can follow, too. Starting point was a trip to Italy to the area of Urbino with the Choir and Orchestra of the University of Bamberg in Germany. I was stuck in melancholy when I left germany nearly a week too late. When that trip was over, everybody went back home, except me. Friends dropped me in Fano on the east coast of Italy. I rested there for ... read more
