OK OK, I know that I haven’t been updating for a while, let’s blame it on my time is wrapping up, I have had serious writer’s block, and I was trying to make an AMAZING entry (which this is unfortunately not, but stay tuned)! Save yourselves for the amazing entry in the coming weeks :P. As for life, as always in Ghana it’s cool. Hard to believe I only have 5 weeks of work left! As much as I don’t want to leave Ghana, I won’t be too sad about leaving work - while the Coalition has been a wonderful learning [View Full Entry]

Ghana Girls

 Africa » Ghana » Central » Elmina
At the insistence of several avid readers of the blog, I have concluded that I am long over due for my next entry, so here it is! Since I last wrote, I have had the privilege of having my lovely Mum come to visit me! She arrived just before Easter weekend to kick off her 8 day visit to Ghana. The reunion at the airport was sight to behold with both of us waving frantically at each other over the crowd and then meeting in a crashing hug, of course with a few happy-Mummy tears! We decided to stay at a [View Full Entry]

it took 8 hours. I really don't think I will do it again lol, or if I did I would have to have at least 4 girls on it!
Since the last time I have written I have yet again embarked on the incredibly long journey to Northern Ghana - apparently I can’t get enough of 12 hour + bus rides! I have also managed to run myself into a confused circle about thesis and get my hair braided (crazy rasta style!) - however neither of these things are as exciting as my trip, so I will begin with that! The purpose of my trip was for the WUSC Annual General Meeting (the first one of which I attended in October in Wa) which was being held in Bolgatanga. Well, [View Full Entry]

So this entry is a bit outdated as the African Cup of Nations concluded last weekend, however the events of the games made quite an impression on me and I wanted to include it in my blog. The Cup of Nations is a biannual football (soccer for all us crazy North Americans) tournament held for the continent to display the talents of the various nations. This year, the games were held in Ghana, which only amplifies the excitement of your country playing in any major football tournament! The games lasted for three weeks and were played in four stadiums across the [View Full Entry]

VIVE L'AFRIQUE!

 Africa » Mali
As the Francophones say, Joyeux Noel and Bonne Annee toute le monde! Please forgive my long absence on the blog, however being on holidays is the best excuse I know for going AWAL, and what a holiday it was. Then to make the delay even longer, the internet at my office has been down for the last week! So grab something to sip on, sit back and relax because this is going to be a long one… Over the last three weeks I had the good fortune of being able to travel to two other West African countries - Burkina Faso [View Full Entry]

It has certainly been a while since I have posted on here, I apologize! Life has begun settling into a pretty solid routine and I sometimes feel as if I have nothing new and exciting to report! Work has been pretty slow to non-existent over the last couple of weeks, save for some meetings, editing, and I helped to put on a re-orientation for the Eastern Region’s District Education for All Teams (DEFATs) a couple weeks back which included a trip to Koforidua, a beautiful town nestled into the mountains about an hour and a half north of Accra. The drive [View Full Entry]

Getting ready to go to matriculation
Life in Accra is finally starting to pick up socially! Over the last couple of weeks I have made some girlfriends and it certainly makes all in the difference in my once bleak weekends! Last weekend I was invited by my friend Marie (the woman who lives across the street from me) to her matriculation ceremony at her university (essentially a welcoming ceremony for new students) along with some of her friends and Divine. It was a nice ceremony and afterwards we went to a restaurant and enjoyed some cold beers and some laughs. Marie is a wonderful person, very kind, [View Full Entry]

So far life here in Ghana remains at a constant, yet slow and steady pace. I am getting into a routine with work and my home life, and am finding it quite pleasant. Granted weekends can be boring enough to make you contemplate picking scabs or burning random things (not that I have resorted to either!), however I have at long last begun to make some friends! And female too, in order to avoid the double edged intentions of Ghanaian males. One woman’s name is Delight and she works near me - she brought me to her house on Saturday and [View Full Entry]

Since the last time I posted I have started work, traveled to the North and back, and celebrated my 21st birthday! Whew, it's been a busy week! My trip to Wa was really good -- it was great to see the other WUSC volunteers again (there's 7 of us -- 3 Canadians and 4 Ghanaians) and we all did our orientation together. So it was nice to have a little reunion -- we had lots of delicious dinners (I thoroughly enjoyed Guinea Fowl, which is sort of like chicken, but tougher and saltier) and drank lots of beer :). The actual [View Full Entry]

Hello All! Finally, I have begun to take some pictures and now that I am back at work, I have a reliable internet connection that I can post them! I will post an entry tomorrow or the next day about my trip to North and all of the wonderful scenery I got to see and guinea fowl that I got to eat :). As for now, enjoy the pictures of my plane ride, Thanksgiving in Ghana, my house, and my office. Thank you all for your lovely messages that you have posted to the blog! I always enjoy reading people's comments [View Full Entry]
