Once upon a time a large boy spent a day in a forest of pine with red sandstone boulders and grassy clearings. At 1300m altitude it was beautifully warm 2528 deg with the sun out but cooller when the odd cloud passed over. He climbed some hard and very fun boulders and that pleased him greatly. It was one of his best climbing days ever which was great because it was also his birthday. In t

It is difficult to describe with words the certain feelings that one has in leaving behind a life to return to another... It is not just a moving on that is so fundamental and familiar to the traveller. When people become part of my life rather than company on the trail it is not just 'goodbye' rather 'can't wait to see you again'. It is a pleasure of mine that I can take with me the memories

So to prove our manhoods Ingra suggested a short stroll up the 10500ft peak of Mt Lassen. We said whatever we do what we want and then we set off. Here are brief notes from the team of dirty mofos involved...Twas my 32nd birthday today the 'mission' up the mountain was my girlfriends present to me. I was hoping for a present that involved me her a bedroom no clothes and a donkey. Wel

How to make Cheese my lesson on an alp

Cheese is big in Switzerland. And in order to get more intimate with this country I spent a week working with Simon Schelbert an Alpcheese maker on his cheesery at 1700m above the Muotothal valley. Here is how he lives summer long...Firstly you need to make sure that you are in a beautiful place in the back of nowhere well out of easy contact with other humans. Then get up really early

Sweden is where lakes were invented and they are not at all modest about them they put them everywhere. If you enjoyed eating wood and drinking water this is the perfect place for you. Forests lakes lakes forests trees water forests a red house and another lake with a small boat in the forest...My first impression on arrival was that it felt a lot like home in New Zealand. A good release perhaps for the the people in this otherwise very rule restricted place.Anyway I was there but I will let the photos tell the story...
