Inspired by dreams and desires long held and the recommendations of family and friends, in May of 2013, Karena and I embarked upon an adventure with only a few cornerstones - periodic visits to our 1st grandson, Finn, Anna and Wesley, meeting Justin in Budapest where he would be working on a movie, visits with friends, a few weddings and a Bar Mitzvah. Our plan, which began as a 3 month trip, soon became a year long journey. Leaving behind everything except what would fit into our luggage (we each have 1 suitcase equipped with heavy duty rollers for cobblestones and shoulder straps for backpacking) we were off to explore the unknown, focusing our personal GPS' on the twin goals of "Taking to the Waters" and "Listening to the Music" (rather than museum, historical sights and art gallery heavy agendas). Expected stops ranged from California, Texas, New Mexico and Arkansas to Europe, North Africa, the Mid-East, as well as SE Asia.
With me as the "trip meister" and Karena as the "financial and framing technician" we left. Quickly, however, we found that the business of "winging-it" travel (eg. reservations for planes, trains, buses, ferries and automobiles as well as hotels, coordinations with travel friends, communications and mail forwarding) - in addition to developing a rhythm for being together 24/7, adjusting to living a very spontaneous life, differences in currency, language, social customs and technology and disengaging from our busy Bay Area lives took more time than imagined. Never-the-less we have now figured out what a blog is and how to put it out to those of you who have expressed interest in knowing "what we are doing".
You will find our posts in reverse order - the latest at the top of our site. Please forgive the advertisements, we have experimented with several programs for ease and flexibility and found this one to be the easiest to navigate.
We hope that you are all well and that you stay in touch. We will be in the Bay Area in September and in Texas somewhere around the beginning of the year - everything else is pretty flexible.
All the Best!
