Weather Report Broken cloud to start with (alto-cumulus, since you asked) Sunny spells through the morning, showers by midday. By mid-afternoon dull with occasional heavy showers. Continuous heavy rain through the evening. Forecast not much better for the w/e. Difficult to get excited about today - stayed too long (through necessity) in the same area. Visited a couple of nature reserves although I think the wildlife was having a day off as little to be seen. Actually the most exciting view was of a bullfinch adjacent to the tent soon after my return. I think the clunch pit was pos [View Full Entry]

Weather Report High cloud / sunny periods at 6am but dire forecast. Dull by 9am, briefly brightened but persistent showers from early pm. Realising that I was on a tight schedule because of the promised rain I was on the road soon after 7am. Usual farm landscape - yes, it is becoming a tad monotonous ! More pretty villages including Harlton, the Eversdens and Kingston all a short distance to the west of Cambridge. One downside of this area is the amount of traffic on some of the minor roads that are obviously used as ‘rat-runs’ by commuters and mums [View Full Entry]

Weather Report Forecast seems to be early sun followed by cloud and possible showers. 7am - sun in the east, clouds arriving from the west. Draw your own conclusion ! Writing this sitting looking at the rain pouring down. Weather managed to hold up until mid-afternoon when the increasing gloom became intermittent rain followed by heavy showers. Forecast for tomorrow seems to be something of a repeat with a fine start followed by cloud and rain. We shall see. Working mainly to the west of the city of Cambridge with places visited including Barton, Coton, Comberton and Toft with the [View Full Entry]

Weather Report Forecast last night predicted fine start followed by cloud. Just before 6am it is overcast, windy and cool with drizzle in the air. Forecast gives little hope of improvement today and the rest of the week will be unsettled. A suggestion that next week will be more settled - which of course could just mean prolonged bad weather ! Weather brightened sufficiently for departure just after midday - remained dry thereafter with sunny periods and no rain. Still exploring much the same area - that part of the south west Cambs to the north of Herts. Agricultural landscape, [View Full Entry]

Weather Report Heavy rain overnight continued to about 7am. Thereafter the morning was dull, overcast, drizzly and cool. Prolonged sunny spells from early afternoon The wet weather had been predicted so settled down to some office work. Set-off (in car) just after 1pm and apart from having to sit out one heavy shower was relatively lucky with the conditions - reasonable light to beyond 6pm. Explored the extreme south west of the county between Royston (Herts) and Saffron Walden (Essex). Landscape much as before - I think we can safely summarise the south of Cambs as being gently [View Full Entry]

Weather Report Fine and sunny at dawn - overcast by 9am Occasional sunny periods from mid-afternoon. Although ready to depart at 7am the sky was unpromising so ….. anyway by 8.30 with some suggestion of the sun coming through I decided to set-off. In case you are wondering, then yes sunlight is rather critical for this project. Villages, churches and other attractions look rather uninteresting in a dull light. I do not need complete blue sky and indeed prefer a backdrop of the classic ‘fluffy white clouds’ (cumulus to the uninitiated). Past few days have been mostly [View Full Entry]

Weather Report Day dawned cold and grey with blustery wind. Two-three hours of sunny periods in the middle of the day. By mid-afternoon back to cold, grey and windy. Sunny spells by mid-morning tempted me onto the road. Visited the medieval church in Stapleford and then moved on to the Beechwood Nature Reserve on the south side of Cambridge. From there it was a short drive to access a part of the Roman road that runs through this area. The lay-by seemed to be one of those delightful places where men of a certain persuasion wait for …. whatever it [View Full Entry]

Weather Report Cold and heavily overcast all day. Still windy. What happened to the weather ? The forecast into next week is not brilliant which considering the previous 2/3 weeks is rather disappointing if unsurprising. Obviously because of the deterioration in the weather will have to stay longer so have booked to Monday morning although that may well prove not to be time enough. Passed the day having a good sort out. Shopped in the nearby Waitrose, would have preferred Asda (cheaper) but could not find it. Please note if visiting Cambridge - the traffic is terrible. Weather Report Warm and sunny with strong east wind. Itinerary Babraham - Great Abington - Little Abington - Hildersham - Linton - Balsham - West Wratting - Brinkley - Burrough Green - Carlton - West Wickham - Horseheath This proved to be a hard day in the saddle - perhaps I just cannot count. Anyway something over 50 miles with numerous stops making for about eleven hours on the road. Delightful countryside in that subdued English way you find nowhere else. Gently rolling landscape clothed in intensive arable softened by an abundance of thick hedges, clumps of trees and copse. [View Full Entry]

Weather Again warm and sunny although a stiff easterly wind made for some difficult biking at times. Not completely sorted yet so about 7.40am before I set-off. Will have to improve !!!! Explored an area bounded by the M11 / A11 and A1307. Doubtless you like me and many tens of thousands have zoomed past this area on the M11 without giving it a second thought. Suggest you give it a thought or two. Although this is hardly beautiful countryside being dominated by undulating fields of arable with few livestock except near the occasional stream there is much of interest [View Full Entry]
