Hi there ! Monday 26 May 2008 1047 BST Sitting in Morrisons car park (makes a change from Tesco) ---- in Tewkesbury. Another wet, windy and cold day ! Forecast does not seem any better for Tuesday. Rest of the week looks like a mix of sunshine and showers which has to be an improvement. Moving on tomorrow (Tuesday) through the Forest of Dean and hoping to camp close to the Monmouthshire / Herfordshire border altho' prob still in Glos. Steve [View Full Entry]

Rain pounding down on the canvas - must be time for another blog ! Shook myself from a deep slumber to hear the promised rain lashing down so no need to rush around. As you can imagine the normal activities of the early morning human are relatively slow in a tent and even more so in the rain. Fortunately I had the foresight to bring swimming trunks and umbrella ! Breakfast was prepared inside the ten - which of course has large safety signs something to the effect of DO NOT COOK INSIDE TENT !!!!!! Seems to me the tent is [View Full Entry]

17 May 2008 Anyways, onto the point of all this - investigating the delights of the British Isles. From Tetbury I am exploring the southern part of Glos. You will do doubt recall that Pr Charles lives down the road from here ….. sad to say that the town like Cirencester which I also visited in common with many places in the UK and I dare say elsewhere is spoilt by traffic passing through and cars parked anywhere and everywhere. Lechlade and Fairford were similarly affected by the dreaded car and Stroud was a great disappointment. The delightful Cotswold countryside made [View Full Entry]

16 May 2008 Hi Folks Ten days of fine weather has finally come to an end so I put together some highlights of the first days of this year’s journey. The first part of my itinerary for 2008 is Gloucestershire which as I am sure you are aware is one of the largest counties in England (look at the map !!) so will probably be here for some three weeks even with fine weather. First camp site was Tetbury Church Camp Site which was a tiny field between the church and the cottage to which said field belonged. This is was [View Full Entry]

15 May 2008 Hi Folks Listening to the rain pound down on the tent for a second successive day while putting on yet another layer of clothing is a reminder of the delights of camping in an English summer ! Fortunately it is a good tent and I am relatively snug although central heating would be welcome….. At least the rain drowns out the traffic noise - not a camp site I would recommend. The previous site was not brilliant - things can only improve …. unless they get worse !!!! There is of course always a silver lining. The occasional [View Full Entry]

Really do not like days like this !!!!!!!! For once not a gloomy start. Instead the day dawned misty and then became gloomy. The forecast was for brighter spells later so I packed the car and set-ff about 1030. The intention was to drive to a woodland car park and then set-off on a circuit on the bike. Arrived at the woodland to find it closed ! How do you close a woodland ? Obviously very easily …. Notices indicated that the authorities were trimming the conifers to make more light. Found another car park and waited for the sun to [View Full Entry]

Weather Report That word again - yep ! - you guessed …. gloomy. Wednesday through to Friday I was cloaked in dull grey skies. Although there was little rain the light was really quite useless for photography. Saturday dawned gloomy but with promise of clearing skies. A hint of blue appeared by late-morning which was rather late to achieve much by bike so I packed the car and set-off for a circuit to the north and north east of Sawtry. This is an area on the Huntingdonshire / Northamptonshire border that is completely new to me and I was pleasantly [View Full Entry]

Weather Report Started gloomy but brightened up by mid-morning. Prolonged sunny spells until late afternoon when it became rather gloomy, cool and windy. Having decided to use the car as little as possible for the ten days or so I organised the bike and was on the road by 11am. As that was something of a late start I planned only a short itinerary - some 20-25 miles. Something of a warm up for longer rides with earlier starts although having heard the forecast for tomorrow I may not be going far ! Many of these locations will be known [View Full Entry]
