Ben and I have been working our way up Vietnam, covering Na Trang, Hoi An, Hue, Hanoi and Halong Bay. Its taken us a fair few days, but its been worth it. The first stop on the South to North route was Na trang. There is a nice beach there, which we took advantage of. Also we took part in a locals five a side match, between staff of the Hostels. I have never sweated so much in my entire life, and thankfully it only lasted an hour. Our side had not beaten the other hostel in the last 7 games, [View Full Entry]

Here are a few photos from the Vietnam part of my trip, From Cambodia we took a bus over the boarder to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City). Its the largest city in Vietnam, population around 6.5million, and is generally hectic both day and night. It seems like each one of the residents owns a bike, and decides to ride it at the same time each day, causing travel by any other means than foot impossible. Even on foot trying to cross a street can be a nightmare, as traffic signs mean very little to the locals. Some of the photos show [View Full Entry]

Since the last post me and Ben seem to have been travelling almost non stop. Firstly we made our way back to Koh Pha ngan which took around 12 hours, by minibus, motorbike taxi, bus and boat! The reason we went back there is for the half moon party, which takes place in the jungle. I have put a photo up near the end of the pics to give you an idea. After that we went back to Bangkok while we waited for our Vietnam visas to come through. We had no probems getting them, and as soon as they arrived [View Full Entry]

After KL we decided to take a bus North to the Cameron Highlands. In comparison with the rest of Malaysia the highlands are cool and wet. I did not pack for either of those conditions. It takes a number of hours to negociate the windy roads up there, but the view is incrediable. Our Hostel was cheap and quiet- everything you could ask for really. The first day i was talked into doing a jungle trek by Ben. The guide told us it would take about half an hour and it was pretty flat, but like everything in this part of [View Full Entry]

Here are a few photos from my time in KL. We spent 3 nights there, and managed to squeeze a fair bit into that time. The first night we made our way down to the shopping/eating district, which is pretty manic to say the least. One of the malls (Pavilions) put on a show, which included a fashion show and the prime ministers wife, plus other high ups giving speeches about the great country of Malaysia - all this just to launch a sale! probably not something you will see in Cabot Circus. Just along the street is Berjaya Times Square. [View Full Entry]

Since i last wrote about Ko Samui we have been on the move a fair bit. The first step was to take a boat across to Koh Pha Ngan island, which is about a 30 min ride away from Samui. It is about 10 years behind Samui in terms of development but its nightlife and beaches are every bit as good. We were staying in Had Rin, which is the site of the famous full moon partys, so has one of the biggest beaches on the island. We went after the months party, so the island was very relaxed, meaning you [View Full Entry]

We have made it to Ko Samui! It took an 11 hour train journey, plus bus, and ferry ride to get here, but it seems all worth it. The train itself was not as bad as it may sound, it actually left and arrived on time, which is always good, plus the staff turn your seat into a full bed, so its easy enough to get some sleep. When we arrived a local took us over to one side of the island, and showed us around his complex, which in fairness was one of the most perfect locations you can imagine, [View Full Entry]

Here are some pics that i took from the first couple of days in Bangkok (Click on a pic or scroll to the bottom for more) The road you can see is Kohsan Road, which is basically a backpacker hotspot, with just about everything you can imagine being sold somewhere along it. It seems to be the busiest road in Thailand. The locals sell all sorts of food, as you can see from the pictures, along with lots of clothing. Mixed in of course you can still see Subway, Burger King and Boots, which by the way are exactly the same [View Full Entry]

Just a quick message to say i have arrived safely, Flight was excellent (although delayed by an hour), good food and entertainment. The hostel we are staying in seems ok, clean enough and right by all the action hot sports. We went to check out the Grand Palace today, which was interesting, and have taken some photos that i will try and upload soon. We are planning on going to watch the boxing tonight after dinner, so i will take some snaps there too. Were also planning on heading south in the next couple of days so i will add some [View Full Entry]
