2012 Winter Escape to Thailand

a trip by Travel Adventures with Steve and Kate
From: January 23rd 2012
Until: March 17th 2012

It's been two years since our India bicycle tour, and even though we have plenty to do around Boulder, I just started to get those itchy feet. I can't even blame it on the weather, since this winter has been mercifully mild. But I felt that familiar sense of time slipping, slipping away, with so many places left to explore...

I haven't traveled in this part of the world since 1988, when I spent 5 months in Thailand on my year-long bicycle tour of South East Asia. At least a couple of those months were spent on the beaches and islands of the south, but I have not actually been to the Andaman coast north of Phuket (which, even in those days, I avoided like the plague.)

The initial rationale for this trip is to revive my nascent diving skills and earn a PADI card - the ability to scuba dive was something I missed on the Andaman Islands portion of our India trip, so it would be nice to be able to take advantage of that on future trips. Then we're going to do a liveaboard trip to the Surin and Similan Islands out in the Andaman sea, and after that...?
