It was another day of shopping for the girls to prep for the wedding. Met the family of Arthur (our driver and Squish's brother) and so with a car load (seats 8 people) we were off again. Fortunately it was only a morning and after lunch Arthur asked what i wanted to do. Show me some 'local flavour' He took us for a drive to where he's purchased and building his new home. To get a flavour of the lives locals lead over here I simply took snaps as we drove along. you can probably break the snaps into 3 main groups - 1 basic street scapes, 2 the contrasts between the locals' accom and govt/institutional building s in the same area (including a Scientology like cult church), 3 a typical new estate. House and land ... read more

It's now Sunday Morning. Observations on yesterday. First on the pics. First two are of the panoramic views from the room of our suite and the electrical wiring that powers the buildings in our area. To put it all into perspective, just around the corner is the newest Grand Hyatt and just down the road is the US Embassy in Manila - so it's not like we're in a shabby part of town. The third pic is at one of the entries of the Mall of Asia, the largest shopping mall in the Philippines. This place is so big they even have a couple of car dealerships under the roof and dozens of Real Estate agencies trying to flog condominiums. Every entrance has the type of 'barrier' with a minimum of two security guards and everyone ... read more

Well here we are sitting in the transit lounge at Sydney Intl Airport. Flight departed Melbourne ON TIME (WOO HOO). Certainly didn't expect that from Philippine Airlines. Interestingly enough, sitting in the plane and accelerating down the runway, listening to the kathump kathump of the tyres on the joins in the runway as the plane accelerated - getting faster and faster and then - almost as if by some mystical laws of physics - the plane gently rose and suddenly we were airborne. AMAZING STUFF HUH????? We've spent about an hour here in transit with a big Qantas 747 parked right out front of the window. Also saw quite a few Qantas jets on the runway - not a single engine fell off or ignited. Must be all media hype. Squish wanted me to include a ... read more

http://www.mediafire.com/?83y7591wzozje2m Well it's getting closer and closer to departure time - and I gotta say - I'd STILL rather be here - especially now the rains have finally come and the dam is actually starting to look good. SAID HANRAHAN by John O'Brien "We'll all be rooned," said Hanrahan, In accents most forlorn, Outside the church, ere Mass began, One frosty Sunday morn. The congregation stood about, Coat-collars to the ears, And talked of stock, and crops, and drought, As it had done for years. "It's looking crook," said Daniel Croke; "Bedad, it's cruke, me lad, For never since the banks went broke Has seasons been so bad." "It's dry, all right," said young O'Neil, With which astute remark He squatted down upon his heel And chewed a piece of bark. And so around the chorus ... read more

Preparing the blog for our pending trip to see Squish's familiy and renew our marriage vows. I've taken the liberty of adding you from my contacts list at work, but if you'd like to be left off or use another email addy - let me know. Not used to keeping a diarey or blogging, 2. I don't know what ineternet access will be like in Guinobatan where we'll be spending the bulk of our time We depart December 17th at "sparrow fart" and fly to Manila where we'll spend a week and Christmas with Squish's family (some of them ... read more
