Today, I hiked the section of The Fife Coastal Path between St. Andrews and Crail. It was 15 miles there & back. The path takes you from the beach by our house along the Scotland coastline to a golf course. The path is gorgeous.. I loved hiking in nature and the silence. It was so peaceful and calming. Later I will be going to dinner with Aubrey's roommates Becky and Hayley then going to be the Minion movie! I love my minions!... read more

Aubrey, Becky, and I traveled to Edinburgh today, the capital of Scotland. The city and the architecture is incredible.. The buildings are made of bricks, and they are all so old. We went to Camera Obscura which is like a lights and obsticle illusions museum. There were 5 floors, and there was a look out over the entire city on the top. You could see for miles in any direction. We also went to The Edinburgh Dungeons, a thrilling attraction that followed a story. We were all found guilty of a crime and locked in the dungeons. It was similar to the Haunt, but not scary, more creepy. At the end, we were to be hanged for our crime which was a free falling ride. Now that was terrifying.. I thought I was going to ... read more

Well, I got stuck in Chicago airport for 5 hours on my was to Scotland! I flew out of GRR at 11am this morning, landed at CHI, and found out my flight to JFK was cancelled due to a huge storm. The flight was delayed a couple times then cancelled about an hour before we were supposed to board. Everyone on the flight had to call the rebooking number to change their flights. After being on hold for 45 minutes I was given two options. One: I took a 4 o'clock flight to North Carolina, a connecting flight to London, then to Edinburgh. Two: I wanted until the 1 o'clock flight the next day to JKF then Edinburgh. There was no way I was going to waste a whole day of my vacation stuck at the ... read more

I skipped yesterday, so I'll do a quick summary of what we did. Yesterday we walked around the city looking at the monuments. We saw the Library of Congress, the architecture in the building was amazing. There were paintings of famous writers all over the ceiling and the stair railings were cherubs. I took a lot of pictures in this building. Across the street was the Capitol Building, we did go inside this one. We walked from there to Union Station. I wish we had a train station like this one in Grand Rapids. It was a train station and a mall. AND. The mall had H&M. I could go on forever about how excited I was about this, but I am not going to. The new H&M in Grand Rapids not a real store. But ... read more

Today consisted of a lot of walking & a lot of reading! We figured it would be the perfect day for museums since it was 50 and rainy. We took the Metro for the first time, and without my metro experience, my family would have been lost. All those mission trips to Chicago and having to take the L everyday definitely paid off. All the traveling in Europe too. It was such a long day, its hard to even remember what we did this morning.. We started off at the Smithsonian Institute, there wasn't much to see there but it was a chance to dry off a bit. We walked through the Museum of Air and Space. There were a ton of planes from different times hanging from the ceiling. We were only there for a ... read more

We are now on Spring Break! As a family, we are going to Washington D.C. I have been there a few years ago with Famke's host family, Rob, Diana, and Brooke, but no one else in my family has been there before. I am so excited! I love traveling and I am excited to be a tourist again. :) Yesterday we left early in the morning. We drove about 10 hours to our hotel in Carlisle, PA which is a couple hours away from Gettysburg. Carlisle is a old, small town with mainly gas stations and motels. Nothing too special. We only stayed there for one night, and we left in the morning for Gettysburg. This morning we went to the Military Park in Gettysburg and got a tour CD so we could do our own ... read more
